BMW Assist - Finally Useful

Finally, BMW Assist came in handy for me. I went to the grocers yesterday a.m. to buy some stuff for my Labor Day cookout and as I was putting the stuff in I sat my keys in the trunk, and then inadvertently closed the trunk.

Since I don't have comfort access on my car, my keys were locked in the trunk. (I don't know why it works the way it does, but you can unlock the trunk and the rest of the car stays locked, and when you close the trunk it stays locked as well.)

Called BMW Assist and they unlocked my car and I was on my way in five minutes. This worked out great as there was no cop around to jimmy the car open and no potential car thieves were in the vicinity either. As I had a lot of frozen and perishable foods and it was hot, I was most happy for BMW Assist.

Yes, I had other ways to get the car unlocked, but none as fast as BMW Assist (or a cop or a car thief...LOL).

i had comfort access (keyless-go) on my car before and whenever i left the key in the trunk, the lid would always pop open. that was a nifty feature. however, i do not have it on my f30 but noticed that the driver's door will automatically unlock when i pop the lid open.

There is a switch in the glove compartment that secures the trunk so that it remains locked even when the doors are unlocked with the remote. You can still open the trunk with the remote or the switch in the driver's footwell, but can't open it from outside the car unless you reposition the switch in the glove compartment.

Thanks. I knew about that switch, though I'd forgotten about it after having set is some 5 years ago. It was only after having locked myself out of the car that I came to rue that decision. LOL

It's great that you finally got to use BMW assist. I hope you also get to use your fire insurance soon.

Thanks for your kind thought. And for your rude curse, I return it and bid it manifest in kind.

Yeh the app is available in the US, I downloaded it in February and I'm sure it's been available before that. I use it pretty much everyday, it's a lot easier to send destinations to the nav than to type it in even while driving!

I downloaded the app and it's asking for either the My BMW user name/password or the ConnectedDrive user name/password.

I typed in what I thought was my user name and password for my bmw and it didn't work.....the same one I used to track my car's shipping progress. Is that what you used?

Here is what you can do. Sit in your car with the app ready and press the SOS button on your roof. Tell them you are having issues setting up your BMW remote app. They will ask you a few questions to make sure they know who they are talking to. Then they should help u with your login info.

Here's what they told me...they said you have to type in your email address in all capital letters or it won't work for user name, and that the default password if you haven't set the car up is "BMW"

Hope that helps.

Do you have an I-Phone? I downloaded the app for android and it has all of the features you do except for the most important one I wanted, which is the PreCondition feature? Do you have to have comfort access or some other option on the car to get that? My app has all the other features you do.

It doesn't work on my iPad or iPhone either. I have CA.

The pre-conditioning doesn't look like it's enabled on the F30's, I don't know why.

Ugh. That was the main reason I wanted the app. Drat.
