Lower performance after dealer service?

I've seen a few messages online about a new software update for the F30 that lowers its performance ahead of the introduction of the new M Performance parts, which apparently include a software tune. This is allegedly done to better separate stock cars from M Performance "enhanced" cars. The owners reporting this went in for service and when the car came back dealer said he applied mandatory software updates from BMW. Apparently one of the things these updates do is lower the output of the engine. Output is still above the rated 300 but less so than before.

Dealers are not necessarily aware of it since they don't know 100% what's in the software updates. Only BMW knows.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the messages again, I believe I saw it on F30post and Bimmerfest.

I'd like to know if this is true as I'm taking in the car for this next week.

Mine's been in multiple times...and there was only one update required, no performance change.

BMW wouldn't risk something like that. It would cause a MAJOR!! PR nightmare. People have there superstitions and spread rumors that are simply false and a placebo effect

Well, I know the car is adaptive. So during my free time in the evening I Drive to a secluded spot and gun the throttle for the adaptation. Even on my daily drive I drive like an ass to get the car to adapt. Still not working. And I'm not the only one having this issue.

For those stating that they had multiple updates with no performance drop please post the sib codes. I call the dealer and my service manager asking about the sibs, one he can answer and the other not sure. Had do do something with the ecu that's all they can tell me.

I think people are too quick to pull the tin foil hat card. While I agree it may sound like a conspiracy, this is not out of the realm of possibilities. These days manufacturers like Apple, Sony, seem to think they still own the goods you paid full price for, and lock you out of your own devices, force software updates on you which take out key functionalities in the process. See the Sony PS3 "Other OS" fiasco for a perfect example of that. I don't trust BMW anymore than I trust Apple, Sony and others.

SIB 62-08-12 but I don't think that covers this.
Recall B61 36 12 for the FEM issue.
Those were the two most recent ones...

I'd go with urban myth. It would be very problematic for them if suddenly the cars were producing less power and torque than advertised...
