My Experience with the new $190 G-PLUS Intercooler

Did a quick review of the new $190 G-PLUS intercooler that a few people have asked for.

Overall I am satisfied with the product. Like a few others have said, the charge pipe to intercooler connection was a bit tough to get connected, but once connected the intercooler seems to function very efficiently. As you will see in the review, some modification was needed in order to get my VRSF charge pipe connected to the intercooler, so it may not be completely "plug-and-play" for everyone.

Check out the full review on my sister's blog:

Thank you! Totally agree with your views. I'm curious to see how long it takes to get some negative comments on one of these intercoolers (I suspect not too long around this forum).

The V12 you see is some of our "garage art" , a rebuilt Ferrari 612 engine awaiting its new home inside of an all-steel classic Ferrari chassis we plan on fabricating in the future. You can see more pictures of our shop on our website www.svauto.com. Warning: Not BMW related, it's all vintage Porsche.

Nice shop! Glad you posted some before and after IAT data in your blog. The issue I have is with having to grind the welds and worrying about pipe fitment. Did you also record PSI loss?

I wasn't happy about the grinding either. I started with a hand file and hoped that would do it, but it didn't get me the clearance I needed. I'm not sure all of the G-PLUS intercoolers / charge pipe combos would need it, just so happened mine did.

The PSI loss is around 2-3psi across the RPM range. I am going to change the o-rings at the connections and add some silicone gasket maker on there (as many others have done with aftermarket cp/intercoolers) and see if that fixes my underboost problem. I will report back next week with my findings.

OK Looking forward to see your progress! So far other than the quality control performance sounds promising!

Post a few more logs with more multi-gear pulls in it. Would be nice to see a 2-3-4 pull if you can do it. This looks promising for a 5.50" core.

Going to fix my boost leak issue this weekend and i'll pull some logs then. Even with boost around 13psi it feels like it pulls strong.

The stock intercooler run started at 2K and went for 3 full gears and then some.

Your aftermarket log started at 5K and did not even go for a full 2 gear run

For a fair comparison the runs should be similar

temp still went up 15 degrees which is not a great seeing how short the run was

Mike@X-ph has a point though......

We need a better datalog to better evaluate the cooler. It is better than stock though.

Had a chance to do a better log after finally changing my cp-to-intercooler o-ring. Temp BARELY broke 100, for a very brief moment, after running through 4 and a half gears and a few pulls immediately before this one.

Have to say I am very impressed with the performance of this intercooler.

Thanks for the log!

Its much better than stock. For the price no one should complain. Def a lot more efficient coolers out there though.

I'm the lucky one! I'll be installing it tomorrow. I'll be sure to give my thoughts on the install and performance. Just from getting my hands on it, it really feels like a nice piece of hardware.

Installed this to my car today. Getting it installed was not difficult, it just takes some patience with the charge pipe clip, mostly on the driver's side. I went for a long drive after and feel a much smoother build of boost and improved response. The stock IC was very plugged up and was holding a ton of debris, I can't imagine it was working all that well. I was getting a reduction in power after one or two pulls even on a 75 degree day like today, not any more. A very strong value for those DIYing.

I have a 2014 320x drive and was looking into getting an intercooler to get some power and efficiency. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Don't know much about them.

I've looked into purchasing a VRSF FMIC recently. From the reviews I've seen, it's pretty good quality for the price.

How long have you been employed with VRSF?
