What size tires for staggered msport wheels?
Ditching the stock run flats finally. Thinking Pilot sport 4s
I'm not a fan of the stretch on the fronts with the 225s. Was thinking 235 or maybe even 245 40 18 When I do this to the front, what are people doing to the rear? Leave it 255 40 18? or go wider here as well? Been poking around the forum but haven't found any kind of consensus. I'm rear drive, not x drive, but still want to stay close on diameter and make sure it looks and performs well. Any advice appreciated. Carl |

255/40/18 is max width recommended for 8.5" rear so i'd leave the rear size alone.
245/40/18 is max width recommended for 8" front wheel. at 25.7" it's a 0.3" shorter than oem, increasing wheel gap 0.15" but since the 245 shoulder sits square and more flush some of that wheel increased gap is reduced. more importantly, there's a big handling improvement with more grip up front since understeer is reduced. it is very evident on corners at speed. there may be a slight reduction in turn-in sharpness but the overall improvement in handling is worth it. |

it's 1/4" shorter up front. being RWD, you'll be fine and it'll potentially give the car an ever so slight rake. i agree. Stock 225s are stretched on the 8" wheels

note: different tire brands and models of the same size tires will have different section widths, tread widths and overall shape(square shoulders or round shoulders) and will result in different appearances and gaps. if you ran a 235/45/18 it would reduce the gap, however you would have a reverse rake diameter stagger, where the front is taller than the rear, and the front sidewall is greater than the rear. i think that'd look worse... https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...MMMM+new+tires... this is what it 225/45/18 to 245/40/18 looks like on oem 397's for your case just look at what's happening up front... I agree with these guys. If you look at TireRack Spec section on each tire for actual measurements, your fronts will be 25.7" in diameter and your rears will be 26.0" in diameter. So it will add an ever so slight rake which will look nice. You'll never spot a 10mm front to back width difference on tires (245 to 255) because the available viewing angles never give your eye a chance to pick up a variation that small. Go for it!

Pulled the trigger!
245 40 18 up front 255 40 18 in the rear (tire shop called me to make sure I knew I was not putting on stock size) Pilot Sport 4s They look meaty and they ride and handle great. Car finally feels stuck to the road! Thanks for the advice! |
