If you have an M-Sport wheel with no paddles, you need to replace the back portion from an M-sport wheel with paddles so they can be mounted. But you still need to drill into your wheel to allow for the screws to side in.

Curious to those that have done this as to what bit they used, etc.

I have a BMW F30 316i with the crappy steering wheel. I want to upgrade in order to get paddle shifters, so would it be possible to buy a 2015 X3's steering wheel and do the necessary wiring and coding and get it working? Or are the dimensions of the steering wheel actually different?

Someone here is offering a BMW X3 2015 steering wheel with paddle shifters only used for a month but without airbag and it is for a VERY good price. Would I be able to fit in my car and take the airbag from my original steering wheel? Or do I look for a BMW F30 steering wheel instead?

I have attached pictures of my current steering wheel and the one I want to fit. I have read online that it is possible but I am not quite sure about the airbag thing.

Thanks.

I am meeting someone next weekend to do some coding for me. I have the parts on order, but they won't be here before I get a chance to install the parts. Will it hurt to code the car for paddles before I install them?

Yes I think you can already code even if the steering wheel does not yet have the pallets behind the wheel

Has anyone ever added the wire and had the paddles not work?

I had the coding done a few months ago along with installing the wheel. The sport trans programming has been working fine since then, but the paddles weren't. I assumed this was because I did not have the wire so I ordered the two connectors from BMW and today added the wire per the instructions. No issues doing that at all, but upon driving find that the paddles still don't do anything. Double checked the wiring and it seems good.

It's a 2015 F30 with sportline package.

I had my coding done Friday and did the wiring today and mine doesn't work either. We double checked the coding, the 2tb transmission is working, but not the paddles. I have Sport+ and when I push the shifter to the left, I get S1, S2 etc along with M1, M2 when I shift manually with the shifter.

The paddles are set to Aktiv, so I am not sure what's up either. I checked connectivity when I soldered the wires and they were fine...I am wondering if I pinched the wires or something when I ran them...and they are not good. It is very strange.

Think I read somewhere that a separate area to code opens up once the wire is connected from the SW to FEM. Maybe it needs to be recoded now that everything is installed?

I looked back at the coding again after the paddles were installed and even turned the paddles to nicht aktiv to aktiv several times to make sure they were being uploaded to the car.

Anyone on here that installed the paddles and had to re-wire and run to the FEM care to comment/help?

Looks like 2 wires are required for the install but per the DIY PDF, it looks like just one wire is run from the A83*2B PIN#3 (in SW) to the A173*7B Pin#5 (In FEM) correct? So what is the second wire used for? The wire isn’t long enough to go from SW on drivers side to FEM on passenger side so do I assume 2 wires are needed to be joined to make the distance?

Any advice or better step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated!

Did you get yours working? I was dumb I guess...the wire connector I had in the FEM was not seated properly. I thought I double checked it, but I just went out and unhooked it from the harness and re-seated it and it works! I knew it had to be something dumb... Glad it is working now though.

I have the m steering wheel (attached a picture), does anyone know if these paddles will work :http://m.ebay.ca/itm/BMW-F30-F31-F34...567?nav=SEARCH

And then i guess i need another back piece like this :https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/32307848268/

And this connectors? : https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/32307848335/

I was in a authorised bmw shop here in Sweden but the guy that I was talking to in the spara parts area didn't exactly know how it could be done..

Yes all those parts look right. The paddles are for a F30 or F20..same parts..and the rest looks good as well. I just did this last week...pretty easy!

You will also need 2 of part # 61130005197 to wire from the Steering wheel to the FEM with a wire in between to make it long enough and part # 32306769431 pan head screws to attach the paddles to your steering wheel.

You are welcome...

Yes, coding is necessary. A buddy of mine coded the paddles and 2TB transmission for me.

There is a complete DIY on this thread post #1 that I followed...very good info there including the coding required.

So got the car coded and the paddles work great.
However, when I was driving around a loaner, I could hold the left paddle and it would downshift to lowest gear possible, it also outlines that in the DIY/PDF. With mine, I cant get it to do it at all. If I hold the left paddle, it downshifts just once.

Wonder if something was missed in the coding? Not the end of the world at all but still has been wondering

So if I'm correct.

If the option PADDLES_VERBAUT is in the FEM_Body, you don't need to pull extra wires?
