According to BMW Korea, they fixed the rust issue since Nov. 2012 patches....
And they provide rust protection treatment for the cars before Nov. 2012 patches if customer reports.

Mine is a May 2012, Munich build, with rust spots on seat frame as well...not very large but I'll keep an eye on it if it spreads...

august. i emailed BMW usa, to see what they are doing about it. there isn't really a lot on my car similar to some of the pics others have posted here, but i still want them to replace it.

no reason to have rust in a car interior.

I just got my car back from BMW, they clean the rust off the angle hinges and put some surface oil, WD-40 on it.

The service receipt said "Clean surface of seat Hinges" they are smart in that they did not say something dumb like "remedied or fixed" seat rust. Coz its not fixable.. i'll wait and see.

Secondly, they replaced my cracked B pillar trims. The tech did a shitty job as the panels are not even aligned properly... FCK

This is disheartening as it seems to be an extremely common problem worldwide, I hope BMW addresses this. I mean if there is rust forming on seat components how do you know there isn't rust forming on more essential parts of the car that you can't see as easily?

Did you accept the car in such a condition or did you make the service department align it properly to an acceptable (yours) standard.

Do you have before & after photos you can post, especially if you are still having issues?

Since Nov.1. 2012, BMW has fixed the rusty seat frame issue as far as I know, but you can just look under the seats if you want to make sure.
All the affected cars (before Nov. 2012 patches) should get serviced for new seats or get cleaning and rust preventing treatment, depending on the condition.

An update on my progress.

Originally I found rust in the hinges of both my front seats. Taken in, first they'd seen of it, and cleaned (rather than replaced as originally advised).

I then found rust on the lugs that hold in the rear seat centre fold down, so I contacted my dealer. After that, I then found some rust under the front seats as well. The car went in yesterday.

I was fairly clear in my discussions with the dealer that I had no confidence that rust won't reoccur - especially if I can find rust in seat parts (that I can see) AFTER they make an initial fix.

Latest response from the dealer today by phone is that a "repair kit" is being issued by BMW Australia later this month.

Does anyone else know any details on the "repair kit" ?

Once I found out more I'll advise.

I just brought my car in today for the rust issue. Mine is an August Munich build M sport 335i. The master tech said he had seen it before. It was on the passenger seat for both of us. They will contact me tomorrow hopefully, they were a little stumped.

Getting your car back in time for this saturday?! What happd to limp mode?

I do not know if mine has rust or not and frankly do not care and am too lazy to check. In 30 months i will slap the funflats back on and return the car as is and get into an m2 (better be out by then)!!

Update:

My car was in for a week with the dealer (in about mid Apr) to get the front seat bases and rear seat rust fixed.

They said they needed the week as it was (one of?) the first times they'd applied the fix - which involved cleaning impacted areas then treating them with a black paint/surfacing. I certainly could smell the "chemical aroma" of the surfacing.

Hopefully all fixed now.

I took my car almost 2 weeks ago for the seat rust problem and tire bubbling up. They said that the seat rails came in last week and should be done by today. Hopefully I can get it back today with rust free rails!

I have the same rust, so I pointed it out during servicing and advised they will clean it up.
