4 series GC - tyre roar??

Tyre roar from the mixed 19's on my F31 is bad at motorway speeds and on occasions, really gets on my nerves . I've swapped the tyres over to Goodyear Eagle F1's and it hasn't made a lot of difference. Some road surfaces are better than others - the M2 in Kent is fine, whereas the M4 and M5 are dreadful.

If you've moved from an F30/F31 to a 4 series GC, have you noticed a reduction in tyre roar? Just wondering whether BMW has put more/better sound insulation in the 4 series over the 3 series..

Would be good to hear from 4GC owners - thanks

I've driven them both, tire noise level is about the same. That being said I don't really hear tire roar. How many miles do you have on your tires? Any unusual wear pattern? Have you had the alignment checked?

Changed the Bridgestone Potenza's at only 15,000mls as they made such a racket. Latest Goodyear only have 1,500mls on and to answer your other questions, No and Yes
Thanks

I'm guessing at this point it is the RFTs considering the F1s are also RFT. You'll get better ride compliance and lower noise out of a non RFT all season or summer tire. I don't have bad noise out of my potenzas but they only have 1200 miles on them. The Continentals on my wife's are a bit harsh.

We went from a 2013 328i to a 2016 428i GC and anecdotally, the GC has better noise reduction. There seems to be less road and wind noise with the GC, plus when shutting the doors, there is a more solid "thunk" over the previous F30. The GC also has less of a "diesel" sound both outside as well as in the car which could be attributed to better insulation plus a possible upgrade to the turbo.
Anyhow, I like what they've done with the F36 GC.

The turbo is definitely identical. Insulation could be different. During a test drive before I got my 340 I drove a 435 Gran Coupe with the M performance exhaust. It was pretty quiet. Immediately starting the 340 the exhaust was much louder. Either way for the OP I feel the type of tire is causing the road noise.

Tyre roar is certainly the main factor contributing towards road noise entering the cabin. I have fitted what are known to be amongst the quietest RFTs without a lot of improvement in road noise. Poor noise insulation is a common complaint amongst F30/31 owners, particularly in the UK

My question to forum members however isn't about what's causing the noise but whether they have noticed a reduction in road noise when moving from an F30/31 to a 4 series GC

Thanks
