Rut Roh missing pieces on the front air dam

Test drove a 335i sport and a 328i sport back to back. Great cars. Much more driver focused than my current F10. Pictures don't do this car justice, you have to go test drive the cars and see them for yourself. Both the cars had missing pieces in the front air dam. I pointed them out to the sales people there and they all agreed that something did not look right. After looking at press photos looks like they need some quality control over in Munich.

yes, but the other side (driverside) had the cover on it and the passengers side did not. Looks sloppy. (on both cars)

It's not an error

Excerpt from an interview with Oliver Ganser from BMWNA:

No. We have increased cooling capabilities for the M Sport and Sport Line model [via extra cooler behind fog lights on passenger side - pictured right], but no power bump. Many customers like the M Sport Package as just an aerodynamics package; that’s why we separated things like the Adaptive Sport Suspension and Sport Steering as options apart from the M Sport package, so customer can make choices between aesthetics and functional enhancements.

Why does the US M Sport model on display have no fog lights, unlike the European model?

For improved race capability. We need the air intakes for air. That’s why the fog lights are out. Because you have more driving on the racetracks than in Europe and you have different climate zones (some places are hotter). European models will keep their fog lights.

It was meant to be that way. And this is only for the US models. So the press release photos, which are of the European models, have the covers on both sides.

If you think about it, I'm happy that they did this

Perhaps you should call your dealership and fill those folks in lol

Nothing wrong
Those pieces change depending on region and specs
The ones you posted are correct for USA Sport Line
In Europe other options are needed for the additional water cooler

What about the 335i?

Are we going to see high oil temps and limp modes again?

I can certainly concede that this my be the way it's supposed to be but I don't think it looks correct. I would suggest to those who haven't seen the car in person to go to their dealer and take a look at it. There are two pieces of unequal metal exposed down there and it looks quite unfinished and lacks symmetry. I think some type of grate should have been used to allow for airflow but conceal the oil cooler.

Are you sure this is not an oil cooler?

With the large radiator for engine 'water' cooling behind kidneys. it seems odd to have another smaller water cooler.

Bottom radiator is the turbo air intercooler, based on pics of the engines.

Yes, the technical documentation on the N20 shows its a extra water cooler.
The N20 has a oil/water heat exchanger by the oil filter, like the N5x series

Its a BMW USA thing

The euro models have a cover with round holes to "hide" the cooler, but just like on the M Sport where they deleted the foglights BMW USA wanted more cooling potential because USA cars are far more likely to be used on a track and in the rest of the world where insurance doesnt allow it.

This picture shows the cover with the holes that was also tested in the USA during development

Hope someone at BMW reads these posts and makes adjustments.. I know I'm dreaming..

So, is this an N20 only thing and not on 335i?

N20 328i has a extra watercooler with sportline in the USA
N54 335i has a extra oil cooler on all lines

So both should have the same look in the USA
