Ugh ! I'm having the exact same issue with the rattle behind my dash or HUD. Cant seem to pin point it for the life of me.

I have noticed that the upper clamshell on the steering column (what the turn signal and wiper stalk goes through) makes a high pitched rattle/vibration noise. Giving it a good smack or pushing it fore/aft temporarily minimizes the issue but it always seems to come back. I need to take a closer look at it some point to see if i can fix the problem.

Edit: words.

I have a similar issue, when I slightly turn the steering wheel left and right it creaks. Almost positive it's the steering column and rag joint rubbing on the inside shroud on something.

Mine seems to be more due to road vibration- I only notice it when I'm on the freeway and the bumps are high frequency. It could be related but it sounds like you have a slightly different issue than the one I have. I am disappointed in the rattles in this car.

I had the same vibration-type rattle coming from the instrument cluster/HUD area. I took it to the dealer who kept it for days, then replaced the entire instrument cluster. It seemed to work at first, but now it's back - albeit less frequently.

Mine is from the driver side window and when I had the window down the rattle went away, had a conversation with dealer foreman and he mention that they would install a strip of Teflon tape on the window rubber that would solve the problem. Dropping off the vehicle next week and hopefully they got the problem fix.

Another rattle is from the steering column and dealer would do the repair at the same time.

Honestly I'll always love these cars the way they perform and the BMW look most of all. But after all the rattles I have fixed, I'm still so baffled as to why there are so many more! you own a MY 13 so you think BMW would have addressed some issues already. Mine is a MY 12 1st year for the f30 so rattled are expected.

Perhaps not enough people complain to the dealers.

The foreman explain to me when you have the shadow trim most likely you would end up with the rattle on windows since the rubber rubs against the trim that caused the rattle, on the chrome & matt black version this would never occurred.

I don't buy anything the dealership says. The trim is basically all the same no matter if its matte, gloss, or chrome. The issue you had should have been consistent to all the windows rattling not just the right front, if that were the case. All cars will have rattles. Its a matter of how much and what can be heard and what will the customer tolerate. I don't expect the dealership to fix them on my vehicles since they do more damage upon taking the interior apart, and I know more about this shit then they do. They will try things to satisfy the customer but ultimately its a 50/50 on the fix...

Unless BMW NVH engineers give them a call with a TSB with step by step directions of how to fix these types of issues they will never get it right. All they do is shoot in the dark and hope for the best. They would seriously need a 4 POSTER squeak and rattle machine to replicate issues like where I work, and I have never ever seen any dealer stock one of these expensive machines. .

I hear you especially when you're driving around in a 60k car! That better be the least of our concerns is some rattle.

There will never be a TSB for a rattle. Trust me. It's a roll of the dice. To the manufacturer it's such a minute issue they will just let the customer complain if they hear it.

Less an issue like if a speaker is not shot or a window flopping around in your door because of improper assembly casing crazy rattles, then yes they will address it because it's of course an issue at the assembly plant.

Issues for example wires moving around rattling a bit under your dash and you may catch it and I may not because I don't care or don't hear as well as you do will always be a let the customer complain and we'll address it.

I have a rattle in my drivers door. I only notice it when driving on rougher surface. I'm guessing the noise is coming from the panel not being seated properly. I've tried pushing on the panel when I hear it and it seems to tighten things up enough to eliminate the rattle. Does anyone have pictures of the interior panel removal?

I don't have any real rattles in my car, but get creaks from the nav screen and plastic trim finishers. Pressing on it can temporary get rid of it. Was thinking of putting some tape on the back of it. Anyone tried this?
But since I upgraded my speakers in the car I don't notice the creaks as much.

Brilliant post! The fix for the annoying "buzzing" console worked a treat, thanks very much for a great description of the instructions and excellent photos.

I had a rattling noise in the same area you mentioned which took me about 3 months just to find out that it actually came from the foot floor. Underneath the steering and just above your legs there is a light - which illuminates the foot floor - surrounded by lots of plasticy pieces. In my case, these plastic parts caused a lot of rattling as they were loose.

Try it out and let us know if that is the case.

I had a nasty sounding one that started on a drive home today and it was a loud clicking that appeared to be coming from the steering wheel area. Possibly from under the plastic cover that covers the wiper and turn signal stalks.

I really really hope it goes away because I can hear it even with music in some cases, and I like to listen to Elvis Duran in the morning so it would be very annoying to hear that clicking all day every day. I would lose my sanity.
