But do you know what is the big problem, the weather, when is very hot or very cold the crack will big, if do you fix it now you don't have to worry latter, I had the same problem in my e92 two years ago, the dealer price to change the windshield was 1600 usd, but safelite repaired the glass for $75 and since than the glass iss okay no problem. Not only did I save my money and did not have to change the original glass. But good luck and i hope you make the right desicion .... Is best to spend 110 now and not 2,000 later.

Maybe I will give them a call tomorrow and see if I can get a better rate. Because the online price of $110 sounds steep fore something that small.

There isn't any $20 windshield fixers in the area? You can go to walmart and get the liquid thing yourself too. I had a similar problem and I just went to a place that fixed windshields for $20.

switch out plate don't cost $500, you can get a Miami heat plate for $100

Also in Florida, any damage windshield are cover for 100% replacement with no deductible. Call your insurance company...

Ric,

Hey I forgot to ask you this: While in motion, lets say 20-60+ mph and you are in neutral going down an incline and A.S.S. is on, does the car stay on? I would hope so.

edit: I know neutral dropping isn't safe sometimes esp. on the highway but I was just curious.

Ok I called safelite today and they said they cant give me an estimate because their system is down but I should call my insurance and it wont affect my premium. So i called up esurance and they connected me with a glass place that will come to my job in the morning.

Hey Ric. I had a quarter inch crack on my Evolution before and I just bought the Fix-a-windshield stuff at walmart. Worked and the crack disappeared and repaired. Just don't apply pressure and don't keep it in the heat. Also, cover the affected area with a clear tape so it won't get contaminated and harder to seal.

So the guy came today and performed surgery on the little chip on the windshield.

  1. So he used a dremel and drilled a hole in but not all the way.
  2. then he puts on the suction cup attached to a compressor where he sucks out the air and then adds liquid glass under pressure.
  3. once done he removes suction and applies like a resin by hand and then scrape off with a razor.
  4. Looks like the compressor does most of the work.

Looking at your pix attached.. he put the machine on top of you hood while working you windshield, make sure he did not leave any dent. That area are very prone to getting dent. Cheers!

Hey Ric!
Your insurance company will cover those up to 4 times a year! I hope you didn't pay anything from your pocket!

When I lived in South Carolina I know the rock chip had to be in your vision of sight for it to be covered without paying a deductable.
