Valve cover gasket sweating after 12K miles

Hi folks,

This is probably not a huge deal but I have not had this happen on my past BMWs.

The VCG on my N20 is starting to sweat after 12K miles. I would think that it should still be bone dry at this point. I doubt the dealer will replace it unless it is gushing oil.

Thoughts?

A friend of mine has it even worse. There is actual oil on the heat shield. I'm not really surprised. There is a lot of heat associated with a turbo.

Hopefully it starts leaking badly before the car is out of warranty...

I would fight to get it replaced anyway even if it isn't and you're close to out of warranty.

This is some BS. Same problem in the E90, except that started for me at 80k miles.

Damnit BMW, your cars are supposed to have new problems each generation, not the same ones!!

Still have 2.5 years of warranty left so got some time. It's just upsetting to see this so early.

The Dealer wouldn't fix my e90's vcg when it was under warranty, Because it wasn't leaking enough oil. It was the same as the picture shown above. So I took some motor oil and an old turkey baster and squirted some oil around the area. And a week later the Dealer was fixing it..2 years later out of warranty it came back again !! LOL
