Should a big price drop be a red flag?
I am looking at a 2015 328i xDrive. It is being sold by a well known BMW dealer as CPO Elite. It only has a little over 10k miles on it, which seems low given the model year but okay. It's very well loaded, and has all the features I'm looking for (Premium, Nav, Cold Weather, Driver Assistance)
The thing is the listing says it was recently dropped in price from $40,995 to $34,045. Seems like a pretty huge price drop. I guess they are very motivated to move it but it just seems odd that they'd drop it by basically $7k rather than reduce it more slowly. Should this be a red flag? I assume it wouldn't be CPO Elite if there were really something wrong with it. I'm in the process of asking for the Carfax and any service records. Is there a chance of a lemon if it's CPO? |

Got the car fax and service record and it's all clean.
Just confirmed with him that it was a service loaner in the dealership. That explains the low miles. Should those be avoided or do people not kill the loaner cars as bad as rental cars? |

i got my car and it was a loaner.. 5k miles on it.. no issues at all so far.. then again only had it for a month.. personally i think a loaner is not a bad choice seeing as the price is alot cheaper...

You may want them to take off the "Elite" status, because CPO Elite is 5/75, rather than CPO which is 6/100. So, at this point, the warranty is really 3/65 since it's got 2 years and 10,000 miles. Also keep in mind that the "free" maintenance doesn't extend into the CPO period, so there's 2/40 left on that, FWIW. People will say that customers beat on loaners, but I just don't believe this happens, other than a few outliers. I believe most people drive loaners the same, or better, than they drive their own cars. There's no real data either way, but, again, if there was something wrong with the car, it shouldn't qualify for CPO status. I have a former loaner CPO Elite--I've had it for 2 years, and it's been as good as a new car. I'd jump on that deal if you like the car. |

Congrats! That advertised price drop is just a marketing tactic to try to sell the car quicker. I'm sure they brought it up several times during negotiating...

Hi don't mean to thread jack.. I am unable to start a new thread since I am a new member?
I need some expertise on what you all think is the most reasonable offer for the following 328i. Dealer will not go under $25,000. I offered 24,500 and it was turned down. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. http://www.bmwtoronto.ca/certified/B...7f302a49d7.htm |

Oh, don't you know it. They wouldn't budge even an INCH. Plus they said the price reflects the fact that it has the remainder of the worry free warranty and the CPO Elite warranty on top of that. So I'm covered until 2020, and they were sure to bring that up.

haha this is true, but whats the god honest worst that you could possibly do? Anything is broken they will fix. Anything breaks under my care its still covered under warranty. =P thats how i see it.

I've never particularly thrashed my loaners (well apart from that Cayman S ) and as long as it has a good warranty you should be fine. Plenty of BMW's round here are getting discounted, there are a lot to choose from and with Christmas coming not many people are looking to buy a new car right now so that's probably the main reason for the discount!!

Sometimes dealers just want to move cars. When I traded in my F23 for the LCI F30, I saw it listed for no markup on top of what they paid out to me on the trade.

I drove it and it seemed fine. Idle was rock solid, it didn't have any bad signs of wear. |
