SoCal (LA/VC/OC/SB/etc) Area F30 Meet and Coding: Sunday, June 30th, 2013 in Tustin

There seems to be some interest in holding a general F30 meet and to do some coding too, so, how about this:

Sunday, June 30th from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the Best Buy parking lot off of Jamboree and El Camino Real in Tustin. There's lots of space and it wasn't busy at all last time we did it there.

Location: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=33.721548,-117.793817

After the meet for those that want to stick around, we could hop over to one of the many places in the area for lunch.

If you are interested in attending, please post a message here. Also let me know if you want to code your car.

We've done 2 coding meets there before on Sunday morning and the parking lot was empty both times, so unless something has changed there, we should be fine.

You can if you want, but you don't need to.

I'll bring my cable and laptop which you can borrow. You do the actual "coding" and I'll walk you through the process step-by-step. It's really easy once you see how it's done.

If 10nelyboi can make it, we'll have 2 coding rigs available.

The current coding list is attached. If you want to code your car, you can use this list to see which things you want done.

I've only coded one F10 so far. The codes are different and I don't keep up with the F10 list.

But, if you know exactly what you want done and have the current F10 coding cheat sheet, then yes, I can help you code your F10. It's the exact same procedure, just different ECUs and setting names.

I move to OC in 2 weeks, I can help out with coding in the southern part of LA and in SD on the occasional trip. Maybe make a thread with people in SoCal that can help out with coding and their locations?

I'll show to the next time y'all group up

I'm in San Diego and can code but switched to Mac and no longer have a cable so if something goes down in SD I can help.

There's a lot of cool coding options on your list. I do have some questions:

How much per item?

How long will it take to code per car?

Will these setting changes be lost if the dealer performs a software update?

Will any of these upgrades void any of the BMW warranty as it's not factory authorized?

Just curious....

Otherwise, I'm in!

We are individuals that help others code their cars as a way to give back for all the hard work that others have done to make coding possible, plus it's fun and is a good excuse to meet other F30 owners.
So, we don't charge for coding. I let you borrow my cable and laptop and have you do the coding while I walk you through the process step-by-step so that you don't make any mistakes.

It takes about 30-45 minutes per car depending on how many things you want coded and how much explaining needs to be done. Knowing ahead of time what items you want coded from the checklist helps cut the codding time down some. We might have 2 coders available Sunday (10nelyboi and myself), so I hope to be able to do more chit-chat this time!

Yes, if the dealer updates the software on a module that you coded, then you will lose the changes you made.

Regarding warranty issues; this is has been discussed at length in other forums. I have never seen or heard of any issues as we are just enabling things that are already programmed into the car, they just aren't enabled in the US.

I've coded about 25 cars so far and never had a problem, but there is always some risk when you code (or drive, or wash the car, or ...). You have to decide if the benefit of the coding outweighs the risk.

Hopefully I can make it down for this. Just picked up my car and some of the codes sound awesome! Thanks for organizing this Frogman!
