Carbon fiber rear spoiler
Guys has anyone bought and installed a NON-OEM carbon fiber spoiler for an F30 sedan? I am not entirely sure I want to spend almost $500 on a spoiler when they can be bought for $150-$175 aftermarket. Looking to get perspective on quality from people who have installed aftermarket.
Thoughts?

I would go with the BMW one or the AC Schnitzer one as those cheap knock-offs usually are poor quality and never fit right.

I bought the now famous $89 one and did a pre test, the fitment is perfect and no wave in the middle like some have mentioned. I plan on installing in the next week or so.

I bought the OEM one and is in the process of being installed right now... will try and take pics when I get it back tonight
just a word to the wise to the people looking at $89 CF spoiler off ebay, it may not even be CF that's in the spoiler but imitation CF... that or it could be a lower quality CF used to manufacture the spoiler. I hate to sound like i'm drinking the BMW Kool-Aid here but there is a reason why BMW charges $500 instead of $100 off ebay, it's all in the quality. Another thing to watch out for since it's CF is if the CF will fade on it's own over time... I've seen some yellowing develop on some CF parts that were more or less bought off bargain sites and they definitely showed their quality over time when exposed to sunlight.... of course I don't know if the OEM BMW would do the same thing but it's just food for thought! |

I agree but the OEM carbon fiber spoiler carries BMW warranty and in my opinion is just made better. |

the differences between the OEM BMW and ebay carbon part is the resin vs fiber ratio. The resin content are usually less than 35% so the part are mostly build up with fiber vs ebay cheap part where the part are mostly build up with resin (50% or more) and a lot of times fiberglass for backing. Less resin and more carbon = stronger part. The more resin in the part = more yellowing and more brittle.
So if you want a part that will last longer then go with OEM. |

They're not full of shit, as mine is backordered and I know what's going on since I work at a dealer When items back order, it means that not only is the part not here in the country, but isn't available in Germany. Its coming from their supplier so until it hits the house in Germany, that's why there's a no ETA. Once they have it, the dealership will get an ETA. The last time I checked with my parts guy, he was saying it looked like middle of July. |

Yup. Working at a dealer for years taught me a thing or two about back orders. Theyre legit and can take forever at times. Especially a non necessity part.
EDIT: stopped by McKenna today and found out they are shipping out of Germany 7/6. Not sure what that means ETA wise.

aren't these spoilers also hand made or something like that? i recall reading somewhere there is an intricate manufacturing process behind the CF spoilers... mine also was on back order when i bought mine off getbmwparts, the wait was like 3 weeks!

Autoteknics one seems to be pretty reasonably priced and they are local to those of us in LA. Has anyone purchased one of these yet?
EDIT: Since the BMW M Performance ones are on back ordered, I just ordered one from Neil @ Autoteknics earlier today, I'll post pics once installed.

Make sure these CF aren't showing any flaws under clear coat...they are very hard to detect by eyes.
I would get the OE products from BMW or AC Schinitzer
