Software updates too far and few between

Why does BMW not release more frequent software updates (www.bmw.com/update) to support newer phones and technology.

My 2012 software update was last updated 2 years ago with:
File Name: UPD01008.bin
And supports the following apple products: > Apple: iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5 (iOS 5, iOS 6)

Come on BMW - release more frequent updates please.

I agree. You'd think they'd have a substantial sized team working on these full time.

They do software updates but require you to just buy a new car to get them

Or have the ISTA/P (and ISTA/D) suite and all the accessories to update your car's firmware.

BMW's software development team consists of one guy working in Munich that is semi-retired.
