335i + SH130 > 85MPH
Austin has a lot to offer like the hill country, Austin City Limits & COTA, but there is another reason if you're a BMW owner. The mile plus long high sweeper overpass from the SH45 to SH130 south was designed with your car in mind. Feathering the throttle at the edge of grip around the slightly on-camber corner and then the WOT blast onto the SH130 south will raise the heart rate noticeably. What's your favorite stretch of road?

There is an on circular on ramp in OC - Bristol to 405 S. I go out of my way to use it. It definitely increases the heart rate.

Route 23N NJ. You start off with a little light to light fun till you pass the Home Depots/ Walmart and you then get into the hilly sections. Lots of curvy roads there. Watch out for cops though since it's easy to go past the speed limit once your heart rate goes up.

The SH130 from south of the SH45 all the way to Seguin has an 85 mph speed limit. This stretch is in the middle of nowhere, smooth and lightly traveled so very tempting to explore triple digits with relative impunity.

Also, the drive from Medina to Garner State Park is one of the best in Texas and probably up there in the top 20 in the US. Nice weekend trip from Austin. http://twistedsifter.com/2013/03/roa...efore-you-die/ I have done #1 (pacific coast highway CA) and #18 (million dollar highway CO) and they are both amazing. |

Nirvana would be an opportunity to take Bee Caves Road at full song (closed and no traffic of course). The long sweepers and big elevation changes would be huge fun at about 2x the legal limit. |

I'm gonna have to brag now.
Moved to San Antonio from Austin 6 years ago and the roads you speak of (The Sisters - 336,337, TX39 are some of the best in the country) and in SATX back yard. The roads North and West of SATX are far less congested than 1431, Lime Creek Rd and just better all around roads. I've seen many a motorcycles go down on lime creek because the residents throw gravel in the road in corners. Hwy 46 from Bandera to Kerrville, 337 Medina to Leakey as mentioned, 473/474 form Comfort to Kendalia, numerous smaller roads, River Road out of Gruene, Old Hwy 9 to Fredricksburg, Park Rd 37 to Medina Lake from Hwy 46 and others around Canyon Lake give a bountiful diversity that the Austin area. There are some very nice and relatively little known roads in Burnet/Eagle Peak around Lake Buchanan north of Austin.

Another great back-road drive is to take RR 12 out of San Marcos to 32 just south of Wimberley and follow it to the Canyon Lake High School, then take a short jog south on 3424 to 306 and follow it West to where it intersects 281. |

Definitely worth it, but to enjoy it fully, you need a tolltag so you don't have to "pay by mail", which costs more.

A great drive in the area is going around the Wanaque Reservoir on the Greenwood Lake Turnpike near Ringwood. There is a cool dam to get out and snap some pictures too. I'd recommend you consider accessing this loop via Skyline Drive off I-287. The whole loop is scenic and very twisty with near zero traffic lights.

We call them tolltags, but they're the same thing. They've done away with attended tollbooths now, so either they read your tolltag electronically or they get a picture of your license plate and send you a bill.
