Appreciate your response; that's not it. It is item 1 in the parts diagram above, BMW part number 51117279700. Apparently, in the posting a few up, someone figured out how to modify this part to fit on the front bumper of a basic 328i, even though the part is for a 328i luxury line.

Was just trying to understand what was done
Thanks

Now that I am at a computer, please see Clarence's posts a few above and then there is this URL, which is in Dutch: http://www.bmw3seriesforum.nl/viewto...per%27#p215017

Appreciate any help you can provide in aiding me to understand what the other people did
Thanks

Again, I have a 2014 328i Basic (no line). I ordered the parts and they arrived today.

Here's what I can say so far:
  • First, item 5 in the diagram provided earlier in this thread is already installed on the car.
  • Second I can not figure out how to install the actual whisker (item 4 in diagram). When I place at the top of the lower intake grill, it seems to extend over into the painted plastic of the center of the front end -- see attached PDF for a picture.
  • Perhaps the intake cover should be item 6 in the diagram
  • May end up cutting the plastic so the tabs will fit through?

I double checked the parts from both RealOEM and BMW Online and the parts are correct. Don't mean to be too dumb, but what am I doing wrong?

Appreciate some help
Thanks

An Update.

Well, even after the different lower intake grills (please see above), I discovered that the base 328i (what I have) is slightly different from the lines (Luxury or Sport) -- not just in the pre-made holes for the chrome items to snap into, but in the "slope" of the bottom of the kidney grille bulge. The Lines model slopes out a little more gently than the basic lines. Additionally, I could not figure out how to attach the Luxury "whiskers" to the lower intake grills.

Having said that, however, I did add the center chrome strip (part number 51117279700) quite easily. All I did was snap off the plastic ears and use some Dupont heavy duty 2-sided tape that I cut to fit on the back of the piece. Have washed the car, got caught in a heavy rain and have driven several hundred miles and it holding on quite well. Did the same on the rear bumper.

Maybe it was me, or maybe had to use the Modern line "whiskers"??

I ordered the fog light grills and the modern line whiskers from ECS Tuning so will see how that goes. I am contemplating ordering the modern line front and rear bumper trims. ECS sales did say both come with tabs to attach to the bumper, which scared me away from ordering. Bought chrome trim for the front and rear off of Ebay but those did not attach very well with the double sided tapes so thought about ordering the OEM BMW trims.

AN ADDITION: While the basic lower intake grills had a round hole next to the fog light opening, the Lines version had an additional (more like a slot) -- but with Luxury "whiskers" couldn't figure out how line up.

Appreciate you letting us know if the Modern "whiskers" work -- think they may because it looks like you can stick them to the area below the kidney grills with good 2-sided tape. BTW, the ream bumper chrome trim part number is 5112 728 9755

Sure; attached is a PDF with my explanation of what I did, along with before & after pictures. Please ignore the tan line that appears on the center chrome grill in the after front bumper picture as that is merely my phone's refection (have a tan case)

Hope that helps -- and if you figure out how to install the "whiskers", let me know

Thank you. My parts are suppose to arrive today so I'll try to see if I can tackle this, if it stops raining.

Where did you order your rear rubber bumper protector?

Tried to install the luxury/modern line fog light cover along with the whiskers but the grills are longer than the no line base cover and intrudes into the curve in the bumper under the kidney grills. Ended up running back to the post office to return all the parts. Guess I'll forego trying look more upscale than it really is.

It's vinyl with a Carbon-fiber look. Got it on EBay through a German firm, Rualwer; here's their website:http://translate.google.com/translat...58%26bih%3D899

Please make sure you use Google's translate as it is German -- but EBay was easier

I wrongly thought that the with line units bumpers were exactly the same as the no line ones and ordered all the sport line grills.....

now they lay silently in my house there's no way to adapt that into the no line bumper!

Hi,

As one who tried to add either the luxury or modern line whiskers to my no line 2014 328i, only to discover that the bumper tapers differently on the no-line and that the BMW OEM whiskers won't fit, I asked one of the Taiwan aftermarket makers if they could make these in chrome coated plastic, either hard or malleable. He response was that he needs people to express an interest.

Again, recall the thread about adding whiskers, I ask that you contact autoparts0522 on eBay; here is the URL for this eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/autoparts0522...p2047675.l2563

Very much appreciate everyone's help!
Thanks

this topic applies to converting the base line into sport or luxury line. But of course you can switch whatever you like.

I had a base line bumper and ordered parts 7 and 3 to get the sport line look.

How did you attach them to your baseline bumper as the clips don't match up? I have the parts but it is not just a swap. Did you cut or tape any of it?

Hi,
You did say that you had a base (no line). Did you have to modify the lower grilles (item 7) any to make them fit base bumper?

Thank you

I am in the process of modifying my bumper. But will have to wait until tomorrow for some parts. It cannot just clip on. I found another thread where they go into more detail about the modifications.
