Manuals

Any manual owners out there?

I currently own a VW Golf R in manual and I'm looking at changing over to a 320d Msport. New job means I am racking up 40,000kms a year, mainly between Newcastle and Sydney on the F3 freeway.

I have always owned a manual, but there just doesn't seem to be any around. I don't particularly want to order one without getting some ideas of how they are to drive. Or is the 8 speed good enough too not worry about getting the manual?

As a VW owner (faultless reliability from mine. Honest.) I did not get the DSG because of reliability concerns as well as driving enjoyment.

With 7 & 8 being overdrive gears, you should have no trouble at all getting some AMAZING fuel economy figures from the diesel. Go for it. The 8 speed is superb, but try it for yourself.

You are in a tall gear for a long time anyway, the 8 speed would be perfect for you.

This is my first Auto car and I don't think I could ever go back to a manual!

The gearbox is amazingly smooth and incredibly responsive when it is called into action.

Add adaptive and VSS to the 320d it will make the long drives smoother.

Cant remember but does 320 come with sports auto trans? I'm sure the X320 does have it

Edit: Just confirmed that it does for the sedan, check for the touring. 318d sedan doesnt have sports auto trans

It's going to be hard to test drive one.

I'm having enough issues working out whether to go 320d or 328i.
