1 series dwi prototype

Interesting stuff - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/1-s...ototype-review

I'd have to fill mine up though as never use the aircon!

Perhaps the new M5 will have this fitted as rumoured will produce over 600hp

Thing with this though, same as start stop is it is a law of diminishing returns and creates an ultra complex engine that you just wouldnt want to own second hand. Fine for BMW to flog cars with a 3yr warranty - but if cars start dying and becoming un-maintainable much quicker any additional fuel saving capabilities are wiped out in the grand scheme of carbon reduction.

They should be putting pressure on manufacturers to make long term sustainable developments.

Peugeot are busy messing about with their 'Green' 308...

308 R-Hybrid.

Kicks out 493 BHP from 1.6 engine and some extra electrics.

Same as any new kind of Tech re: the warranty, you wouldn't want to own one of them yourself once past 3 or 5 years old. But things have to move forwards so good to see BMW doing this and using a by product of an existing inefficient system to make the car more efficient and add power is clever

Though the system they talk of appearing in production next year is the indirect system fitted to the M4 SC, which has been around for decades already as was discussed in a thread a few months ago.

I saw this it's very impressive, and the RCZ was already impressive with 270hp from the 4cyl 1.6.

And it has built a car to prove the theory behind Direct Water Injection (DWI) is sound. This BMW 1 Series is powered by a three-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, here developing 215bhp instead of 201bhp thanks to DWI. The compression ratio is upped from 9.5 to 11.0:1.
Right, so it's not the increase in compression ratio that is generating the extra power then, it's the water.

Unfortunately they are dropping the RCZ - not that bad for its price.

A RCZ R-Hybrid kicking out nearly 500bhp would be interesting lol.

Although might have to up the spec of rest of car..

It's amazing how versatile that 1.6 engine is.

Am I right in thinking that the 1.6 engine was a joint venture between BMW & Peugeot?
