I don't disagree the there is golf similarity, but given that no one was complaining that the rear looked crap and they wanted to buy a golf instead, I can't imagine the motivation was to copy the golf, rather than just bring in line with the current BMW design language of wide rear lights and a sort L shape.

The front is a massive improvement.
But as others have said, it looks like a VW Golf from the back

Because the shape is V similar and the 1er hasn't ever had lights in the boot panel. Other BMW have had this for years and they've never tried to do it before...........

All in all its a good job. Wasn't the 6.5" iDrive always standard?

I think it's a definite improvement. With the previous model the only thing that made me go for the 3 series instead was that I wanted both xdrive and 8AT. Anyone know if the auto box will be available on the xdrive model as part of the LCI range?

From BMW UK "BMW ConnectedDrive with 4G navigation capability" for the new 1 Series LCI, isn't it a first for BMWs in the UK? As the F10 LCI only brought 3G with it...

Answering my own question here, but after a quick search it transpires the new 120d xdrive is ONLY available with the 8AT gearbox. Looking very promising for me indeed... (I didn't really need anything as big as the 3 series)

I'm definitely on the "pro" side... I come to appreciate the first version more over time as I had a few as rentals... They were pretty decent performers and the looks grew on me... But this LCI takes the car into a much better looking area than before... A proper refresh, I think, that definitely addressed the concerns more commonly voiced...

I'd say it was a job well done, and it'll be interesting to see just how "refreshing" the F30 LCI is...

Garage List
I must have missed it, will the 1 series be available as an x-drive now, as per the rest of Europe?

Came out as xdrive in 120d manual only in 2013. Only reason i went for 3 series (13 plate) was at that time also introducing xdrive in UK on 3 series but I couldn't have the auto box on the 1 series. This LCI is perfect for me. Seems like 118d and 120d both getting xdrive in UK with the LCI, first only manual, second only auto.

As an aside i had been considering a better engine than my (I have to say though, excellent) 320i but a 1 series with the new diesel engine at 190BHP should be pretty decent performance wise!

Its just a shame they have never tried to put the 3.0d in the 1 series. I reckon a 130D X Drive would be a cracking car!

According to CAR they're saying that the M135i will be available to order as an xdrive. It was xdrive before on the continent in LHD but not here so interesting if that is accurate for the UK.

It will be the only RHD BMW with the 35i engine with xdrive so far.

It looks like the 114i & 116i have been scrapped in the UK in favour of the 118i becoming the base model. However, the new 118i has the same output as the current 116i...

Maybe BMW felt bad for us and thought they would give the 1 series the improvements it deserved before the next gen comes out as from then on out it will be all FWD with UKL...

That's really interesting. All in all it's a great update addressing pretty much any issue with the 1 series.

Full LED headlights as standard on M Sport models - getting quite excited about when the configurator goes live...
