software update (UPD05021) failing

software update (UPD05021) from bmw.com/update failing on ActiveHybrid 3 (prod. date 08/2013).
Any other AH3 owners successfully install version?

current software versions
Media: MN-002.017.007
Phone: TN-002.017.007

error Invalid update file. Restore previous version. More info: www.bmw.com/update

tried 2 different USB sticks freshly formatted FAT32
tried both UPD05021 and UPD05062
tried ignition on and engine on
turned off Bluetooth

Strange error, the type of engine/car shouldn't be important, it's the NBT version that is.
What version is yours?

Go to the Navigation screen, hit Options on your controller then scroll to Navigation System Information/Version (something like that). It will say NBT_X, X being a letter. What is the letter?

You're going to want to go to your dealer and have your integration level updated. Tell them you can't do the latest bluetooth update because there is an incompatibility with NBT_B firmware and the update. When they do the key read it will tell them that there is a newer version available.

I made an appointment this saturday with the dealer. Anything else I need to ask them to update while the car is there?
any AH3 specific updates?

I don't think this is correct information, as D is not newer than B. Also there is no C.

Well then let me say it another way: It does not work on NBT_B.

If you have NBT_B then you need to have your firmware updated.

I don't know what all the letters are, I don't see why _D would be older though I suppose its possible.

I have a 2014 428i.. Today, the car was in for service for a few things, but when they went to update connectdrive (cause I tried too many times with diff usb drives, not compatible etc.), they found idrive firmware was not up-to-date. Service said it takes 4-8 hours to update idrive. Booked an appt for next week. My streaming Bluetooth has never worked correctly, XM app randomly pausing for 13 seconds, doesn't start, issues with my iphone.. Hopefully this takes care of 99% of the issues. I'm looking forward to steaming XM and being able to enjoy it and hear it!

It actually takes about 2 hours to update the whole car, I know, I've waited for it twice, never taken more then 2-2.5 hours, they probably just don't want you waiting around for some reason...?

Did you have stream Bluetooth issues at all?
Haha thanks for the heads up.. Yeah, I figure it can't take really take more than 2-3 hours, just a matter of when someone actually gets to it once I drop it off.
Funny in my experience with 3 bmw's, cause it's never just for an oil/lube service, there's always something to have him look at or listen for, my service guy always tells me it may be more than 1-day. Lol Then as typical, calls me by lunch time that it's ready.

My car has streaming Bluetooth issues still - it cuts out during music play, though not as often as before last Connected Drive software update. Question is, could this problem potentially be solved with an integration-level update or is this type of Bluetooth operation managed solely by the Connected Drive software? Apparently, the dealer will only investigate this problem if they are paid $150.

In my case, I hope to find out next week, but def covered under warranty. My confidence is high it's idrive integration level issues besides being outdated, but because the 2015 328i loaner I had, which has streaming bluetooth standard, my iphone/XM app worked flawlessly from the moment the car started, and the again when I started it later, then and again, and again..lol. That was actually what made me call my service guy back after orig being told it was problem my phone lol and/or to wait til 3/2015 for the next connect drive update to be released.

I gotta say, Its great actually getting what I paid for..car steaming correctly and XM app!! Mind you, in a Loaner car and for just 2 days..But the first time in 4 months, I didn't want to throw my phone out the window or curse the day I ordered bmw Bluetooth lol. Hopefully come next week, my 428i will be able to do what my nieces base nissan sentra does perfectly, stream music.

what dealer did you take it too?
I dropped off my car this morning at Pacific BMW in Glendale and they said it should be ready by Monday.
I asked why so long and the rep said it's a hybrid and they only have certain mechanics working on it and probably wont get to it until Monday.
So I said let me take my car and I'll just drop it off Monday but he came back stating to just leave it and they'll take care all of my update request including updating the NAV map.
So off I went with a loaner until Monday.
Hopefully everything gets fixed this time around. I've only had this car for 3 weeks and its been to the dealer for repair/updates twice now.

I couldn't apply the update that was available online due to my integration version being outdated. I'm having them do that. It's like a bought a brand new computer that's running WindowsXP and can't apply any updates because it's no longer supported.

I spoke with the Service Advisor who said they will not even investigate the bluetooth problem if I'm not using a BMW officially supported phone. The officially supported phones is a rather small list which doesnt include the LG Nexus 5.

Among other service work, got car updated to "I". It seems that brakes work better now - faster to a stop. Also, all-electric mode can deliver slightly more power before turning on engine, as gauged by driving up parking garage ramps at faster speed. Both good things.

Now running NBT_I14275A, MN-002.049.003, TN-002.049.003. Will try bluetooth tomorrow.
