Navigating iPod with snap in adapter

Got my car yesterday, and thanks to the insight and wisdom of other posters, I am slowly figuring out how to use iDrive and preset 1-8 buttons effectively.
One issue: I notice that if I plug in iPhone and access through USB, I can go through all the songs in the playlist/album on my HUD; when I use the Snap In interface, I can only see current song and "next song" and "last song" options on HUD. Any way around this or are others experiencing something different?
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, so can anyone give me a few pointers? Thanks in advance; my enjoyment of this car has been substantially enhanced by this forum, and I'm really quite appreciative.

I just got my snap in and noticed the same thing and was a little dissapointed. I like the layout and control using the iphone/ipod interface when using the snap in, but the HUD only shows the current song and the next and back buttons.

I haven't tried it yet, but in idrive you can select from two different "plug in" choices, the snap in version which gives you the ipod controls and the regular version which gives you the BMW controls, I am guessing using that you still see all the songs in the playlist when scrolling on the HUD. Guess we can't have our cake and eat it too.

One thing I was suprised with is how hot my phone got, I have the media snap in with the fan (who knows if the fan really works or not), and was just playing music, the phone was almost too hot to handle when I took it out after 45 minutes of driving.

There are two snap in adapters here in Australia, one has the "music" label and the other has "media", the media one will let you access the playlist, and my media one does not have a fan, and yes the phone runs quite hot

Do you guys still have bluetooth audio enabled? you get this behaviour on the main idrive screen even if you use the snap in adapter with that still switched on (don't have HUD myself)....

also noticed today that navigating playlists with iDrive doesn't work if your using playlists in folders, playlists in the root seem fine though...

I think that later media cradles do have a fan and they facilitate video streaming from the iPhone.

I can confirm that. My cradle has a fan, and plays video from iPhone, which is a great "wow" feature, but not something I can ever imagine actually taking advantage of.

I have the "media" adapter for an iphone 4s PN B84.21.2.298.309

...but... whether this works or not depends on what set of options you have.

My dealers parts desk were great, I gave them my VIN, which they went and checked first on their list, against my options plus when I bought it the actually gave it to me to try out first before I paid for it... £144 !!!! but I get album aret a lot better 3g connectivity for bmw live and phone, plus it keeps the phone charged to so worth having....

This looks like it, but no mention of the cooling fan...

Thanks Keith. I thought it was .308 from the accessories book online but it wasn't clear. I have ordered Pro Nav with apps and internet and there are a lot of the Media cradles for sale on ebay now that people are upgrading to iPhone 5's.

This is from the 3 series accessories price list on line, but it's not clear this is definitely the F30 and the bluetooth link doesn't give any part numbers.

This is why I went to the dealer..... my parts are 6NF and 6NK, which weren't listed... the amazon price is the same as the dealer, so why take the risk of buying online, when you can talk to human beings, who were actually quite friendly and helpful...

Richard, this numbers from my ivoice so could be a typo. part was 120 + VAT

I've seen both the .308 and .309 for sale on ebay but I've no idea the difference now. I'll speak to my dealer but I don't have a VIN number yet, just hoped to get it cheaper with people upgrading to iPhone 5's.

This is the cradle I ordered from Amazon for my 4S. The item I received is the media cradle (i.e., plays video) for enhanced USB/BT & Apps equipped cars. It plays videos from my phone, and has the fan. Part# is: 84212218390

Genuine OEM BMW Apply iPhone 4 Media/BMW APPS Version Snap In Adapter

As I mentioned, the ability to play videos isn't really that awesome or useful, other than to impress other people. I can't imagine ever actually sitting in my car and watching a video when I have much better options available (plasma, computer, iPad, etc).
And I think the enhanced interface is of debatable significance. I almost never use Nav, so ability to navigate through artists, albums, playlists like I would on my iPhone is really, really awesome, and much better than standard BMW interface, which is cumbersome in comparison. Plus, you can navigate using the enhanced interface, and then switch back to standard interface once you've dialed in the particular album or artist you want to listen to. This permits the benefits of the improved interface to select music, + the convenience of having split screen when you need it. The music just keeps on playing when I switch interfaces. I then just go back to cradle interface (which I've set to a preset) when its time for different music. Personally, I love the enhanced interface, but also don't really have the need for split screen.

Richard, regarding your VIN, if you have a rough delivery date from your dealer they should also have your VIN already, that's how they track things with BMW, might be worth checking with them.
