Mark, I sympathise with you - they have you by the short & curlies on account of age alone and I guess you can't go hanging up on people like that. One of the very few benefits of having a few years under your bonet ...

Guess I'm lucky on area etc (Bristol), but Direct Line quoted me on my 330d M Sport (fairly specced up) at £390. Hire car, legal costs etc. I went with them and reduced the excess from £550 to £250, which took the premium unto £420. Seemed pretty fair to me and there was no talk of options - just the overall value.

Still, all these guys try to shaft you at some point. The really galling thing is that they all assume you're a teen-age chav if you modify your car and charge you double the premium.

Picking my car up tomorrow - can't wait, but the weather looks utter pants ...
Now that Davey was a result, I may need to use them next year myself if LV start pushing prices up to far.

I've just insured through LV as my 7 day insurance is running out. They didn't come up as the cheapest originally but the others elephant, esure, Admiral, Diamond all wanted to charge for factory fitted options, LV states they are not considered a modification.

As a single guy I find it stupid adding a second driver makes it drop by £100. So I've added my ex as a named driver.

LV seem to be the best; however they wanted £1600 for me just when I added the black grilles etc., went up from £1100! So I ended up going with Elephant at £1150 inc. all mods and options; I have also just today got it in writing from them that they will cover all options (I have them all listed) and mods; which is/was actually quite difficult to do - usually they can only list max. 6 either options or modifications! They made a mess up though and I received an email today saying that "because of the change to your policy [which was just stating what I already said to them on the phone] we will be refunding £70". Lol, so their crapness does sometimes work to your advantage

Just sorted GAP out today as well, £199 for 3 years from ALA.

Hope you have a weekend off the detailing this weekend Richard

I'm not quite sure Mark, I paid an additional amount to swap to the 330, but I would say it is going to be £1000 if it were for a full year.

I do use the car for business, so not SD&P only, but have NCD 5 and over 40, no points, no convictions, no nothing......oh and I'm male which should entitle me to a lower rate now right?

The biggest joke is Aviva telling me this model is extra difficult to fix so incurs an additional £250 excess......she then said this additional excess is only payable for an own fault claim, to which I said "Isn't any excess?"

I would be very interested in hearing from the other M Sport owners or non M Sport 330D/335i owners with Aviva if they have also been hit with this additional excess BS.

I didn't have any problems regarding an excess, only the problem with some companies charging more for factory fitted options.

I'm paying £1150 I think it is with Elephant, also 5 years NCB, no points or accidents; and I also have my girlfriend on there which whacked it up by £300 (27, driving for just over 3 years, no points but accident just under 3 years ago). Don't use it for business though. Aviva quoted me around £1500 I think it was even without mods etc., so with your business use included I guess it doesn't look so bad? Still quite a lot though!

Definitely a load of BS re. the excess, what's the point in guessing if they don't know, with something as serious as insurance?!

I think I paid £498 in the end with LV, late 30's, business use, £200 voluntary and £200 compulsory excess but I do have full (over 10 years) NCD and no claims/points.

I had to add a second driver to make it drop £100 as I mentioned.

Am 42..

When I turned 40 my premiums plummeted..before that when I had the porsche I started off paying £1500 annually with £500 excess

Now I have over 15 years NCB Protected and a spotless license.

However, I think the bulk of the cost is linked to the post code where the car resides over night...

Would be interested to know if Aviva hit you with an additional excess of £250? afterall a 320 M Sport will be just as difficult to fix as a 330 M Sport.

Aviva drove me nuts. They were so much more expensive than LV .... by £350 + all their excesses!
I contacted LV and put a second driver on and got an additional discount. Now I pay £470 approx, £0 voluntary excess, only their compulsary excess, with all their bits 'n pieces except their Roadside Assistance. 4 years NCD (missed the 5 years by a month) and no claims for 4 years. Clean licence. It's ok for Central London.
Hate buying Insurance.

Garage List
Oh dear... After reading all that I am not looking forward to having to troll the internet looking for insurance when I get mine on the 28th!! (Cant wait!)

Currently have an Admiral multicar quote with myself (7 years protected NCD and IAM Emergency Driver, and my partner with 8 years protected NCD and full business for us both, both less than 30 and both on her 2012 Fiesta Zetec too) and when I rang them a few months back to enquire about a rough cost when looking at the car, they advised me it was an extra 100 quid for the change of policy and change of car... All in around 750-800 quid... Not bad I thought.

Still have a good 10 months on the policy so I would presume that the increase for the year would only be around 120 quid from a 1.6 Astra to the 320d... They did whack a compulsory excess of 125 quid tho...

They did ask about optional extra's and I had a slight discussion with the woman and told her everything coming on the car is factory fitted from the manufacturer and she advised me the only cost option from those I listed was the parking sensors as they make the bumpers more expensive to repair (and less likely to damage??)

I think it depends on the individual you talk to it seems...

It's also part of a staff policy..mrs... Just my standard excess I have it as standard 350.. Everything is protected legal cover the works. If I had left it on the single policy they wanted £400. For that I would have moved on as I had quotes for £300 from other companies..
