F30 euro switch
Installed the euro switch from ECS tunning in my 2012 328. Install was a snap but the rear fogs don't go on. Anyone know what coding might be involved to get it to work?
Thanks, G |

If the bulb is there, and the cabling is there too, then all you might need to do is to turn the feature on in the coding which should be (out of the top of my head) located somewhere in the REM module, probably under 3062 LceMapping1 or 2 and the feature should be called something saying 'mapping_nebelsomething_output' , just change the value from off to on and they should work.

OP: If you ordered this switch from ECS Tuning and it doesn't enable rear fog lights, I'd contact ECS Tuning and let them know about your experience. I've had nothing but good experience ordering from ECS Tuning and the Euro headlight switch that I ordered for my E92 works perfectly. I'd be surprised if they said that your switch enabled rear fog lights and it didn't actually work.

Thanks for the information. I'll check on the bulbs/cabling this afternoon. FWIW ECS does make a point of stating the switch might need coding to work. I'll send them an email to see if they have gotten any feedback from customers.

FYI, the rear fog lights on the E92/E93 use the same lights that are used for the Brake Force Display.
Brake Force Display is a feature whereby additional tail lamps comes on during rapid or sudden braking. During normal braking, the two brake lights that are located on either side in the rear fender portion of the tail lamp assembly light light up when the brake is applied. During rapid or sudden braking there is an additional brake light located in the trunk lid portion of the tail lamp assembly on each side that turns on. Turning the rear fog lights on utilizes these two extra lights which are brighter that the regular tail lamps. As a result, the Brake Force Display is not available when the rear fog lights are on because those tail lamps are already illuminated. See the second picture that I posted in the above referenced thread to see what the rear fog lights look like. If the F30 doesn't have Brake Force Display on US models it may also not have the capability of rear fog lights.

Just a heads-up, I just checked in the code for my car and it says that the 'nebenschlusslicht' (fog light circuit) is turned off. You probably need to activate this indeed before it would work
(btw, in relation to the brakeforced lights, they're supposed to be there on the US F30 (they're advertised, after all.. although I have no clue how they start working), and these are enabled in the code (if they were not working, they most likely wouldn't be enabled) ).

Update:
The bulbs were there. ECS at this point has no information since they just started selling them. The code location svache mentioned didn't change anything although I was a little unsure since the code location he mentioned lists a right and left entry. I picked the left entry but my options were "off" and "nsl_1" I picked "nsl_1" |

I have my Euro non xenon version installed. All of the functions work fine except the rear fog and the headlight range adjustment. I coded the same as you did and no luck. |

Ok, so it took me a year of once and a while searching code but it turns out the rear fogs will work with the euro switch. Turns out one has to buy and install the switch. Then go to the coding discussion form on this website get the coding software and turn on not just the rear fog itself but also enable the rear fog button in software as well. As one can do all kinds of other cool things with the software as well (see forum) it was worth the search. Still frustrating on some level it wasn't a drop in and work feature like it apparently was in the past but it's working now so, so be it.

It obviously looks like the U.S. switch could be modded. I initially tried to gently pry it apart but it wasn't coming easily. Nor are the little tabs that are on all four sides of the switch the only thing that is keeping it together. There is something else that I couldn't see. As the car is leased I didn't want to "F" with it too much as I have to turn it in at some point. These are the lines that need to be changed:
FEM 3060 LCEMaster 1C NSL_Verbaut = Verbaut REM 3062 LCELampMapping 1 Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_output = nsl_l Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_Function = nebelschlusslicht I still have the original software that came with the car. It hasn't been updated yet. While I assume the latest versions have everything in the same place I don't know that for sure. I'm sure someone in the coding forum would be able to look. G |

I couldn't take a pic of the rear fog on as it's in bright sun now. Trust me though it's on. If one wanted to for some unknown reason on could turn the right rear fog on as well. Or the right instead of the left. Just change the code entry in REM to the next section down which lists the _R_ entries
