I'm actually a little worried as I spoke with the SA, and he said that they could not reprogram the ASS. The new DME will wipe the slate clean and they cannot get another code from BMW to reprogram it as it's a one shot deal and I already used mine up..... ASS or MPPK...

Thats a no brainer! How hard is it to push the ASS off button when you power up? Small price to pay for the extra power of the MPPK.

You can probably get an Indy shop to do this for you - or get BMW NA to allow you to have that feature re-programmed. Look at it this way - if you had some other reason to re-flash your DME (such as replacing a steering-arm sensor, etc.), you should be able to have that remember-last-setting feature enabled again, as with any other custom coding you've had done. I know they do have to get "permission" from BMW NA to do that specific feature, but it should not be a one-shot deal. I'd ask them again or try another dealer.

My CA says the tech advises to wait 2000 Kim's before installing the PPK rather than at delivery. Thoughts?

Then you'll have to pay for install.

Is it a break-in the engine issue?

My dealer informed me that the shipment has arrived from Germany (with the new DME). The earliest appointment I could get was Monday. Long wait

He suggested to break it in. I read in this post where others were getting it installed prior to delivery and wondered if it mattered. I plan on breaking it in slowly but figured getting installed at delivery would be easier.

My CA said to just get it installed upon delivery so settings don't have to be reset a second time. I don't think it should matter if you have self-control not to run it hard. Curious as to other thoughts...

Exactly my point. Not planning on running in hard but don't want to take it back in.

Regarding waiting until "break-in" is completed - all this does is bump the engine power up to the same level as the N55 engine that comes in the 640i Gran Coupe and others like the 135is. It does not make sense that you would need to wait for break-in if other cars come with this level of tune from the factory.

Can you get port installed accessories in Canada? If it's the same as the U.S. then you can save quite a bit that way compared to getting dealer installed after delivery. Sounds to me like they want you to hold off so they can get the labor dollars and part revenue to install it at the dealer instead of at the port...does BMW advise that it shouldn't be installed before break-in or does "some guy" in the dealer service department advise it? Sounds like BS to me.

agreed, break in is BS with this.

It's like the car came as a 335is, that's what the PPK is. What do 335is owners do when they first get the car...they break it in gently...

so do the same and tell the SA to bugger off....

The funny thing is. These cars are beat to piss before you even get in one. They're tested for miles and miles and miles redlined. All bs

Absolutely agree! Its a modest tune and comes standard in other models. A lot of these guys that work at dealers don't have a clue about cars. For sure, there are far more informed people on this forum than some of clueless characters at the dealers. Many of us end up explaining how things work to the service department instead of the other way around.

Really? Even for a brand new order? I was under the impression that my new car (due here in the US in about a week) might have 4-5 miles on it simply because of the drive from the factory to the train that they're loaded on to to deliver them to port. That's it though....when will my new car have miles and miles of the piss driven out of it before I get it at delivery?

So are they broken in when we get them? If so, why do they state break-in parameters in the owner's manual?
