Brake sensor problem !
Hello everybody...
my problem is since i brought my car which is 15 month ago the front brake sensor was showing gradual decrease in the life time of the front pads.. but since 3 months it stop decreasing (its showing 2200 km =1367 miles to change front pads),, so since 3 months the car says that the brakes are the same but the feeling is changing(the initial feeling when applying the brakes is fading away)! anybody has this issue,, really strange , i feel like if the car front pads need to be changed but the sensor is not working properly?! |

I had the same issue . My front brakes stayed at 1400 miles for about 4 months. Then on the 2nd anniversary of picking up my car, I got the replace brake warning light. Since we only get a 2 year warrenty in Europe , I ordered the brakes to change myself. Took the brakes apart and the wear sensor wasn't touched yet. There was still a good bit of pad to go. So it looks like the brake sensor is supposed to go off before the mileage count stops if you're braking often and hard enough. And if you haven't changed them in a two year period the car tells you too. I could be wrong but that's what it seems like . I installed the new brakes with the old sensor and everything is fine.

Unless you have a warning light I'd just forget about the sensor. We can spend all day speculating about the accuracy of the sensor and debate where the mileage approximation is coming from but is be better to just visually inspect the pads. If the braking material is thinner than the thickness of the metal backing on the pad it is recommended that you get new pads. With german cars you really should do rotors at the same time as well. Make sure to inspect the inside and outside pad, there are two pads on each wheel

I had the same issue with my car as it was calling for front brake replacement in 2,000km when my car was only at about 17,000km. When I took it in for the first oil change they updated the software and CBS and the interval went back to a far more reasonable number. From what I gathered from the service advisor this glitch was a known problem as he mentioned right away that the software update would correct it.
