I'm fucking pissed. So after I bought my CPO (Certified Pre Owned) 2013 BMW 320i with 30k miles on it. For a few days I didn't drive it and white smoke would come out of it when I would turn it on. So the next day I turned it on no smoke. So hmm..Leave it to sit for a few days again BAM white smoke again. This was like a week or two after I bought it literally drove like 50-100 miles maybe. I took it in explained what I read on the forum. What you know they called me today "Turbo Oil Line Leaking"..I'm pissed because they didn't know this when they fucking certified this car. The dealer said they run a car through a bunch of test before being certifying...dumb!
This is from BMW of San Diego BTW. PLUS they want to charge me a 50$ fee for them just to check whats wrong even though I have 2 year warranty PLUS my dad bought his BMW from the same dealer as well. Like give me a fucking break. We are customers of BMW jesus christ.. Last edited by xroshx; 09-15-2017 at 10:03 AM.. |

I got the recall letter back in January I want to say. I put it off as it didnt seem too important at the time (I was around 40k miles). I got a low oil level warning in February and stopped by the dealership to pick up a quart of oil for "in-between changes" topping off if I get the warning again -- they did the recall part then and topped the oil off for me. No issues before and no issues after

BMW made good
In January 2017, My 2013 X328i was puffing blue smoke on startup. Car was 6 months out of warranty. Took it to the shop (non BMW) and he replaced the oil feed line and the turbo. $5500 ouch. In October 2017 I finally get the oil feed line recall letter which said they would reimburse for these types of repairs. I went back to the shop and he called them and sent in paperwork showing labor hours and part numbers. After 2 weeks, BMW sent me a check for the entire amount of that repair.
I hope this comment helps someone else with this. |

I just noticed the same thing happening with my 2014 428i xDrive F32 N26 that I literally just bought a month ago. However, it seems a bunch of people are having this issue with 2013’s. Anyone heard of this issue happening with the 2014 models? I’m also concerned/pi**ed. Gonna get a hold of my SA whenever they decide to answer or call back.
BTW my symptoms have been pretty much the same: fairly big cloud of smoke coming out of the tailpipe after a cold start (smoke lingers and doesn’t fade quick like condensation would.) Thanks fellas. I’m hoping to avoid a less stressful holiday like everyone else is I’m sure. |

Does anybody know if this recall applies to the 2012 F30?
I had noticed smoke coming out of the tailpipe and whining noises under acceleration. Took it into BMW and they said fuel pump and timing chain had to be replaced for a cost of $4K. Is it possible the turbo oil line was the cause? |

I'm glad I came across this section of the forums
My wife has a 2013 BMW 320i which has travelled 48,000 kilometres (around 30,000 miles) she has had since new . We have recently noticed blue smoke from the exhaust on start up which is particularly worse if the car has been sitting idle for 2 or more days. The car is currently at our local BMW service center and the guys there have pointed to faulty turbo seals as the likely cause, but yet to be determined. Because we are located in Australia our car is not part of the aforementioned recall as it is for owners in North America. Suffice it to say if BMW don't come to the party we're looking at a fairly sizable repair bill. I'm wondering if anybody has a copy of the recall letter on hand they could send me a copy of. That would be much appreciated Regards and thanks, Peter Last edited by Peter Jago; 02-21-2019 at 11:25 PM.. |

Mine did the same when I got it last year (used). I have to say, it hasn't happened since I started changing the oil on it myself... It makes me wonder if the oil is a contributing factor. Liqui-Moly might be worth a try.
