435i xDrive MSport, or wait for 340i xDrive MSport?

So not long ago, I was set on trading in my E90 328xi for a '13 CPO 335i xDrive MSport for my daily drive (I only drive to work about half the time, though) - which I'm looking for something sporty but practical, with the intention of AutoX and maybe track days if I can afford regularly burning through tires. Definitely was planning on getting a Dinan Stage 2 at some point in time.

However, when I went for my test drive, I also tried out the 435i xDrive MSport, and loved it. I don't know if it was just me, but the steering and handling felt a lot tighter and wasn't as "disconnected" from the road as the F30 felt (that needed MPPK and DHP to "fix"), and the LED lights looked better. Afterwards, looking it up, I was impressed that its listed 0-60 was a good 0.6 seconds quicker than the 335. I wasn't particularly enthused about the smaller rear window, but I consider myself a relatively road-aware driver, though I don't know how it'll feel on a highway.

However, with the LCI 340 coming out, it looks like the redesigned steering and suspension would solve a lot of issues, plus it has the beautiful LED headlights too.

Should I wait a while for the LCI F30 (I'd prefer getting CPO on it, to save some money, so it'll be a while), or go for the 435?

As a 435i owner...i say wait for the 340. Wait!!! Perhaps the dhp will be updated too. Wait!!! New engine...more power...im sure u can tune 340 soon...better suspension...id wait...good luck in your decision.

Thanks for the recommendations - any explanations for why, though? See, my worry is that if I wait, by the time I pick up a 340 LCI, the 435 will be undergoing its own LCI, and then that's going to look more desirable than a 340 LCI, and thus the endless cycle of waiting continues

340i looks too boring even after LCI. Yes it gains a little bit of power but 435 is more unique.

Go for 435i... that's what I'd do.

If you arent in a rush, I would wait and drive the 340i and if you aren't sold vs getting a coupe bodystyle wait till winter and drive the 440i after the engine update

I'm not sure where you're headed with this: I think the 435i xDrive absolutely needs DHP and MPPK to even approach high performance driving. Whether a 340i xDrive will be any better is something that no one here can answer right now. My guess is not much.

Oh, I'm absolutely still looking for one with MPPK and DHP on it. The problem is that for some reason, I don't think sites like Autotrader don't list whether the car has DHP or not, and you need to contact the dealer to find out - its a pain in the neck. Cars with DHP on them seem pretty rare, too. How much of a deal-breaker is not having DHP? I know that MPPK and DHP are a must on the 3-series xDrives in order to fix the terrible steering and suspension, but is it as bad on the 4-series?

Oh well, I guess getting one dealer to do a search tips your hand?

In any case, I'm waiting for a response from BMW to the M-B C450 - and I'm dubious that will arrive prior to MY 2017, if ever. But I'll be happy with my 435i xDrive for another couple of years, even though it is the least powerful of my last three BMWs.

You can use this site to view the options on a BMW by VIN number (actually last 7 digits). Cars with DHP will have "Adaptive M Suspension" and "Variable Sport Steering".

IMO---DHP is an absolute must-have!

Here in the UK the 2 aspects of the DHP are separate - I've just gone from a 435d with standard suspension to a 435d with adaptive and there's a huge difference. Old car was nothing like as comfortable or as sporty - it was sort of stuck in the middle and therefore neither. Definitely go with the DHP as IMHO the adaptive suspension changes the car dramatically.

I noticed that the DHP includes VSS in the package as well, while the Adaptive M Suspension can be purchased separately as an option. I hate VSS, and as an xDrive, would I still need to get DHP or is the Adaptive M Suspension alone enough?

They cannot be purchased separately on either car.

Adaptive M suspension CAN be purchased separately from the DHP IF you have the M Sport package.

Realize, you can always get aftermarket swaybars or something. Sometimes they take a little while to hit the market, but if the 340xi has an improved suspension and you like the 435 variant, it's not like you can't make the 435 suspension outperform the 340. There are a few options to do so.

Are we expecting all the 435's to get the new engine even if they don't get LCI?
