Idle Noise When Hot
I know there are already a ton of engine noise threads related to the N55 (and other) BMW engines. I've searched and read many of those but haven't found a match for the noise my car is making.
When the engine is at full operating temperature (oil temp just below 250 degrees F on the gauge) and is idling there's a muted clunking noise. The noise changes frequency as RPMs rise. The car is 2012 335i with ~53k miles on it. Other than this the car sounds and runs totally normal. Is this just another odd BMW noise that's normal? Or is this something I should immediately bring to the dealer? Below is a video of the noise. https://youtu.be/r4C16a1zXLY Thanks for any thoughts advice. |

I've had the same issue!!!! But for me it's weirdly on and off....
I think it's something to do with oil? Bad oil maybe? I'll know once I do an oil change soon Currently running 5w 30 |

The car hasn't made this noise as severely, but it still does it when it's hot outside, the oil temp is hot, and the car is idling. I tired switching to 5w40 Castrol Syntec at my last oil change, but haven't noticed any real difference. Le the know if you see any change with your car. ? |

Can you pin point as to where the noise originates? Sounds like some type of knocking.. or it could be the exhaust. Locate where it comes from so we can possibly narrow down the possibilities. But I've read a lot about the N54 having some serious knocking issues.
