Honestly depends on your area...if the cops won't bother you I'd go as low as possible and keep it uniform all around.

I went with 30% because it's not dark enough to really warrant attention from the cops (35% is legal here)...I've had friends get ticketed and have to rip it all off then go back to the police to have it tested. That cost and PITA isn't worth it.

It also depends on the tint if you go with a quality brand ie 3M / LLumar they don't come off looking black from a distance like cheap tint does. Dont get me wrong you cant see in the car its just the way the light reflects off the film. My wife has been in the car with sunshade up and I have stood next to the car and had to really look to see her.

My past 3 cars have all had LLumar CTX-14 is ceramic based and is really somewhere between 15 and 18% and have never had an issue.

Mercedes SLK - blk on blk
BMW 128 - silver on blk with blk top
BMW 335 - blk on blk

Metallic based films have a tendency to interfere with the electronics on higher end / german cars which is the reason I went with the CTX as its ceramic based.

Located in sunny Florida

Hope this helps

I just had tint applied to my 335 last night. This is the first time I ever had tint. 35% is perfect. I am beyond happy with the way it looks on Glacier Silver. Sorry, no photos yet since it is at the dealer getting winter wheels on it right now.

I'm having my 328i tinted this morning as I write. Same legal-here tint on all the side windows; I could go darker on the rear doors, but you're right, it looks odd. Though I am going darker on the back glass. Ceramic tint, too. The shop doing it handled the tint for my previous car, and it never bubbled even during the "don't open the windows" period.

Come to think of it, I've been getting my cars tinted now since 1999. It definitely makes a difference in driving comfort, either in hard-sunshine Colorado or wet sticky sunshine Lousy-ana.
