Yeah it sounds pretty dangerous if you were in a situation that required to you get out quick. It just happens randomly you never really know when it will happen.

This just started happening to me in my e90. The button to unlock all doors works every time but sometimes pulling the handle inside just makes the peg go up but then goes back down when I release without clicking in the unlocked position.

What about cars like myself that are now out of warrantee? Will BMW fix that for me? I am beyond my 50k miles... Quote:
The latest situation for me is: For a couple of months now, the little lock knob indicator by the window door no longer goes up. It is "stuck" in the lock position. But i no longer have the hesitant opening from the inside... In my case, i think the link mechanism from the door actuator to door lock indicator (by the window) must be broken (loose). But this fact doesnt prevent me from locking or unlock the car by any means. If anything its even easier for me to get out of the car. The cabin unlock button can be used to lock and unlock all door as usual. The keyfob can lock and unlock all doors as normal. Other than the little door lock indicator not popping up on the drivers door, but all doors do lock and unlock as intended. Ever since that door lock indicator is not working anymore, i never had the hesitant unlock situation when opening the door handle from the inside (2 pulls and i am out). I am tempted to one day disassemble my driver door and see what got disconnected or could have made the door handle opening not so smooth... I think you will eventually see the same issue as me.

update with video
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all the input. I decided to take a video of the issue when it happened this weekend just to clarify the issue. It seems like a bigger issue than I thought. Anyways, have a look but at the end when I press the unlock button on the center console, the door finally opens. Guys, it's a bad lock actuator. I know the tech at the dealership. He's swapped out loads of them. I had 3 swapped in my car alone.
The good news? The new actuator is a lot better than the old one. Get it swapped. |

Mine had a problem with the passenger front door lock, namely, when unlocked with central lock button the lock pin would pop up in slow motion. The SA confirmed the problem and the tech replaced the lock assembly under warranty, and now it works fine. Yours definitely is a defect and should be fixed under warranty.

OP I had the same issue with my 2013 335i. Kit wouldn't unlock when you pulled the first time. The lock would go up and right back down. But when pressing the unlock button on the center console it worked fine.

Maybe it will be a class action, and we can all get a $500 voucher towards the purchase of our next BMW; and the lawyers can get 33% of the settlement.

I had this same issue on my 2012 F30 335 and it was the lock actuators (both front doors). Replaced them and no problems since (going on 10 months now).

I am experiencing this same issue on my driverside door after two weeks of buying my CPO 13' 328i. Only way to successfully unlock the door is by pressing the unlock button on the dash. I'll be scheduling an appointment to have this taken care of.

I've have recently begun to experience the same issue intermittently. The operating rod will begin to pop up on the 2nd handle pull and immediately pull back down. I can feel the resistance in the handle as well. The Center Unlock button does unlock the door without fail. Looks like the part # is: 51217202143 according to RealOEM (Approx $171). That is for the drivers side on a 13 335i Sedan w/Alarm and Comfort. Think I'll check by Bentley's for the remove/replace steps.
