i have a 328i 2012 F30... i've noticed that the people with 335i have the leather base under the stick... is it possible to get that on a 328i?

leather base is if you have the Sport auto option(notice the paddle shifters), also the shifter itself differs

I’m sure there is a retrofit somehow, but have not seen anyone do it. And presumably its not that cheap to do.

That has nothing to do with the 335, it comes with the sport auto transmission. It's available on either 328 or 335 so long as you get the sport line or M sport and opt for it.

just because you have the sports line does not mean you get the base...

you have to add the SPORT AUTO option ($500 USD) to the car, not the standard 8 speed option

from bmw’s website

"The close spacing gear ratio in the optional 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission enables maximum use of the optimum rev range, significantly lowering fuel consumption and enhancing shift comfort. "

I believe it gives double clutch performance levels. I doubt you would be able to add it post production, and if you could it would probably be more costly than its worth to get it from a dealer (even though most of it is programming)
