iPhone 8 / X Bluetooth Issues with BMW
Multiple threads on iPhone X / iPhone 8 Bluetooth Issues and BMW
I am going to take a wild stab and state that iPhone X/iPhone 8 moving to Bluetooth 5.0 from Bluetooth 4.2 (which has been in the previous iPhone 6,6s and 7) might have caused some compatibility issues with the OLDER Bluetooth version in the BMW. Now, does anyone know what Bluetooth version BMW uses and if it has changed in recent years....or model years when it changed? Possibilities include 4.2, 4.1, 4.0 or older When reporting issues, I would suggest that 1) posters list the year/model of their car 2) CIC, NBT, NBT Evo 3) Last 7 of VIN would probably be helpful trying to locate a common denominator as to why some work and others do not. 4) What iDrive Version are you on? 4) Have you flashed your ECUs or updated the iDrive Software since your car was built? And for the more advanced which would really help narrow this down: 5) What software/firmware versions/build versions are you on....iDrive and ECUs? 1) 2015 435xi
2) NBT Evo (I think) 3) K372323 4) Updated to the latest multimedia/phone update, but no ECU flash. 5) No clue The first day that I had my iPhone X, I had no issues. Now I can’t get audio playback or telephony to work at all, over Bluetooth or USB. My wife’s iPhone continues to work just fine. I’ve tried everything. |

I do not have the iPhone 8/X I have the iPhone 7. However, I upgraded my phone to the latest software update yesterday (11.1) and now am having Bluetooth issues. Screen was stuck on "Connecting bluetooth device" for my saved phone this morning and no audio playback so I deleted my phone to try and re-pair it with the car. However when selecting the BMW from my phone it keeps saying "make sure BMW #### is turned on and in range" and won't pair. Had to resort to USB cable for music playback.

I am actually on the iPhone SE. I have been having connection issues since upgrading to iOS 11. My 4-Series is actually at BMW of Murray (SL,UT) right now for this.
I was driving by the dealership about two weeks ago and decided to stop by since I was having two major iPhone connection issues. Sometimes it would just show, "Not Supported", while others, it would play music from my iPhone for about 2-3 minutes, and then pause. Of course music played when I tapped the power button, but after another 2-3 minutes, it did it again. Yet there are times when it works as advertised. When I stopped by the dealership a few weeks back, the dealership did notice the connection issues I was having, since he had the exact same thing happen with his iPhone (He tried three different cables too). I was told that I am in need of a firmware update (Which would make sense). I brought the car in yesterday for said firmware update, and the dealership left a voicemail this morning telling me that everything is working as it should. So, this is something that is tough to nail down. 1) 2016 435i xdrive 2) NBT Evo (I think?) 3) K373118 4) iDrive 4.X 4) No ECU Flash, no iDrive update (yet) And for the more advanced which would really help narrow this down: 5) Media: MB-001.043.002 Phone: TB-001.043.002 |

I just got the iPhone X and am on 11.1.2. Yesterday (11/23) I am seeing the iDrive reset mid call. It can happen every few seconds while on a call. I had the iPhone X when I was on 11.1 and don't recall the issue happening. I did a delete and re-pair and that didn't help. As of 11/23 when I re-paired it I shut off contact sync. I will drive the car later today (11/24 or 11/25) and see if it happens again and report back here. I also found it interesting that now when you go to bmw.com/update and enter your VIN you no longer have the option to download any firmware. It checks and if you are up to date it says so with no other options. From what I have been reading this could be an 11.1 issue. 11.2 should be out soon. I run the betas on my iPad and we are at beta 4 now. Here are my specifics.

After reading this thread I realized I hadn't paired by new iPhone yet. Haven't had problems since pairing but haven't made any calls while in the car thus far. Did try streaming Amazon music and it was fine, playing music and showing album art.

For anyone interested, I'm on the public beta program with ios, and often after a new beta rolls out, you lose BT and sometimes cable connection too. And I know, it's beta, they do that. But just as a heads up if you are planning to try betas on iPhone.
Mine is NBT big navi, with touch controller (2013) and iP6s+ |

Turned off contact sync
On 11.1.2 turning off contacts stopped the restarting problem. I just upgraded to 11.2 and will test tomorrow 12/4 and post the results with contacts re-enabled

2013 320i xDrive NBT (Retrofitted) firmware unknown
No issues at all on Bluetooth Audio streaming and calls. 2016 M235i NBT EVO ID6 (Retrofitted) running on 61.4 Slight issues with CarPlay, would always freeze and will not load back up. Updated to iOS 11.2 and it has been fine since.

I've got an X and my bluetooth was fine, but it stopped working randomly not even after an update. When I choose the BMW on my iphone it just says that it cant connect so it sounds like an error on the car's side. I've got an appt on Tuesday to check it out, but I don't understand how it happened so randomly. I didn't change anything. Phone is updated to latest firmware.

BMW is aware of it via PuMA. Unfortunately there is no ETA and it's not known whether it's an iDrive or iOS issue.
