Does anyone else notice that there handbrake varies in length and resistance when pulling it up.

It seems to change randomly from say 3 clicks to 5/6 clicks to be on enough to secure the car. The 'weight' of the handbrake also changes as the number of clicks changes.

Just seems odd

It's a mechanical system, so it does vary with use. The resistance increasing as the lever is pulled higher is normal, caused by the stretching of the brake cable and the compression of the springs in the brakes. It's a primitive system, but sufficient for what it needs to do.

I know what you mean but this is a night and day difference. For example when it changes the 'increased' resistance felt is there from the first click I understand that it should increase the further you put it on put this is there from the first click and then sometimes it isn't

It could indicate the need to lubricate the cable and/or other bits.
