Warranty Claim 442M Wheel Corrosion?
Just noticed some corrosion starting on one OSR wheel on my 335D Touring - see pic attached). Car is not even 2 years old and has covered only 20k. All wheels are otherwise in excellent nick with no kerbing or damage.
Dealer is trying to argue that this is probably caused by a stone chip (so NOT covered by warranty! but the bubbling is starting under the lacquer layer and all feels smooth to the touch - so I'm disputing that. Interesting that the corrosion is starting in an unusual place right in the middle of one polished 'rib' of the wheel - and not in the usual area around the hub. Anyone had a similar problem and tried to claim under BMW warranty? Rgds, Clyde. |

Thanks - so after 2 weeks and no response from the dealer (not returning my calls) I emailed the owner of the dealership (Toby Partridge BMW Eastleigh) and copied BMW UK Customer Service. Dealer called me on Saturday to say they are still 'looking into the matter' whatever that means! Will update on progress......

Very difficult to see in the photo but looks like filliform corrosion. Chances are the edge of the clearcoat has been penetrated, a common issue with diamond cut wheels.
I'd be interested to see if they resolve this under warranty or not. |

Just goes to show what an email pointed in the right direction can do..... |
