I have intentionally not updated the BMW Remote app given its recent neutering of the remote unlock feature. But starting a few days ago, when I try to unlock, I get a message that says:
"For security reasons, the login must be renewed at least once a year. This includes deleting data stored by the app from the iPhone. Otherwise, the app cannot run. Do you wish to continue?" I've accepted several times, and have to re-enter my BMW assist login credentials, but to no avail. Despite my attempts, I am still receiving the same message and can't proceed to unlock. All other app functions (including remote lock) still work. This is kind of a bummer if they were able to somehow brick the unlock feature, even without applying the recent update. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks!

Mine is doing the same. I suspect that this is the way they can disable the the feature in the older version in order to force us to update and lose the feature altogether.
I think we BMW drivers should protect by overwhelming the call center with requests to unlock the car. We could pick a day and everybody call all day long requesting the unlock feature. Maybe BMW would gt the idea. |

This functionality was removed from the most recent version of the app.
Someone posted it somewhere on bimmerfest I believe. Basically, your only option is to uninstall that app, and pray you have an older version of the app on your computer somewhere. Seems like that feature is gone for good. |
