Help comparing a part in engine bay.

Hey guys so I've been trying to diagnose a knocking noise that's happening when turning right and then straightening the car. I was looking in the engine bay to see if there was anything loose/out of place and I stumbled on something that looked odd.

I attached pictures of what I think is an engine mount with a nut missing from the thread.

One picture is zoomed out so you can see where to look in the engine bay (right behind and below the intake heat shield). If you look at the zoomed in one it looks like there's supposed to be a nut. It looks like there's a depressed area where a nut would have been screwed on.

What I'm asking is for someone with a 340i to look in that exact place and tell me if it looks the same. Thanks in advance!

It sure looks like there should be a nut there, and a washer below it. You dealer will know, and if so should replace it under warranty.

I knew it!! I'm pretty pissed seeing as I had to find this out through my own means, rather than my dealer noticing it this could solve the knocking noise that's been driving me crazy for months! Thank you both!

Unless I'm mistaken it looks like the #5 flange nut is missing correct?

Just looked in my 2016 340i and yes, I would say you are missing the six-sided nut (the #5 flange nut) in the above posts. Mine clearly has that nut there. Easy fix at the dealers, mistakes happen. Could have been missed on the build, or worked loose and fell off.

Thank you for checking! Yeah I'll definitely get a hold of that flange nut. The only thing I'm worried about is if anything else is missing. Like I mentioned above my car has been making like a knocking noise when going around right hand turns. Hopefully this fixes it!

$0.64 part.

They don't fall off by the way. Somebody took that flange nut off for a reason.

Torque on that is probably going to be somewhere between 45 - 49 ft. lb. Maybe someone has better info on that.

Use TIS, the factory manual, for tightening torques. This would be 2AZ, engine mount to engine support arm. For your car, F30 non-M47/M57 with an M10 nut, the answer is 56Nm, which is 41lb⋅ft.
