Dealer ordered car with wrong tires
I wanted summer tires on my 19's but got Pirelli run flats. The thing is, I'm pretty happy with them. Grip seems good, although there is a touch of understeer and not as much oversteer as I expected. This probably because the rears are larger, as I have the 19's.
I'm mostly wondering how the grip and handling would change if I switched to summer tires. I know there are several rft topics already. I'm just not sure, since I have the car now and am happy with it, if it is worth fussing with the dealer to have them change it, and if I would actually be happier with the summer tires. Consider my driving habits highly aggressive when my kids are not in the car. Walter |

If you got 19" wheels from the factory, then I think you received "summer" tires as I do not think that BMW does an all season from the factory in 19".
Now if you don't like the Pirellis, then that is something which is just luck of the draw. I would have thought the dealer might have made a swap to make you happy if they had another car to make the swap with, but at this point the F30s appear to be so new that there simply is not enough on hand that are not spoken for to start doing things like that for customers even if they wanted to. If you took delivery, getting a swap now either way could be a problem even if they have stock on hand. What does the tire say on the side wall? If P Zero then you have summer. If P 7 then all season.

FYI, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 RFT are Ultra High Performance Summer tires.

Looking on Tirerack, the only Pirelli's to fit the 225 front / 255 rear are P Zero Run flats (which I have), P Zero Rosso's, and a winter run flat.
Both the run flats and Rosso's are Max performance Summer. The Cinturato's are rated at high performance Summer. So I would have to think the P Zero's would have better traction, all though both tires are AA rated for traction. Actually, I'm pretty happy with the tires. I didn't expect to be that happy with run-flats and I assumed the summer tires would not be run flats. I guess I was just wrong there because the run flats are rated the same type of tire as the Rosso's . The biggest problem is that the car needs about 100 more hp to overpower the 255's in the back. |
