I am facing all of these. While the wind noise was highly irritating and very uncomfortable, the ear popping when shutting the roof freaked me out! How come none of the magazine reviewers faced these?

On all of the older BMWs I've worked on you slide the entire trim UP, then out. I would imagine F30 is similar.

Hmmm, tried, but didn't want to break something so didn't force it.

Interesting to know that this is general problem & shame in the same time for BMW.
I just bought my car 2 months back 335i 2013 model and I have the same wind noise.
After complaining to dealer the answer was this due to side mirror size and new aerodynamic.
This really surprised me as I had 330i 2007 model which was quieter than the new model.
Well this just to share with you my case, I bought my car from AbuDhabi, UAE.
Love the car but this noise in annoying.

If all cars were noisy then mirrors could be blamed, but as it doesn't effect all cars, some are virtually silent, I can't see it being mirrors.

Going through the 17 pages I found all new 3 series have wind noise, did I miss any post saying other than this.

That's probably because only people with the problem are posting in this thread. Let me fix that now - mine doesn't have wind noise. Some tyre noise yes, but not wind noise. I've driven three different F30s and none have had wind noise, so it's definitely not all of them.

Well, let ME fix that now and tell you that I've had many ppl in my car. Most of them don't hear anything, w/ just a few thinking the car is noisy. The morale? It's very, VERY subjective

The bummer is that, for me, the car seems very noisy. Lots of wind noise, lots of tire noise.

Driving different F30 examples will show there are differences, both for wind and tire noise. Tire noise is obviously influenced by wheel and tire combinations, so will vary from car to car. Wind noise has to be fit and finish. But agree NVH is very subjective, hence why some can appreciate 'noise' as sporty, near silence is often equated with luxury, and many other views in between.

The 3-series is certainly not as quiet as a 5-series, but some will see the noise levels in the 3-series as appropriate to where it sits in the market place.

Wind noise to the degree many of us are experiencing in our $60,000 BMW's is not appropriate, nor would it be in a $20,000 Kia. BMW should be ashamed to produce a car with this level of poor isolation. I've rented a fair number of vehicles in my travels and I'm always amazed how wind tight they are compared to my F30. The last one was a Chrysler 200. Horrible car to drive, but absolutely no wind noise! How can this be?

+1

But BMW will get away with it, the same way it got away with other ridiculous things before.

Raise your hand those who will switch to a different brand because of this issue. What? No one?
If anything, you will step up to a 5 Series, so BMW will make even more money

My only hope is that another brand will come from behind, offering what BMW offers now, so at least I have an alternative. Kia maybe?

If it is that bad get it fixed, it can't be right, as it is not every F30 that has wind noise. I had a hire 320d ED the other week for 3-days, and that was typical of any 3-series I've driven over the years. Not totally free of wind noise, but nearly so. Even after my 'quiet' 5-series it wasn't something I'd see as an issue.

What speeds are we talking about? I do not percept any wind noise below 60 mph, but at 120 mph and above you can hardly talk to your passenger. As the highways in Germany do allow going 120 mph and more, I'm wondering whether the noise issue is fixable at those speeds.

If you've read the posts here, I and many others that are experiencing the wind noise issue have had our cars in to have it fixed, in some cases, multiple times with no improvement. Dealers are claiming there is no known fix yet, but clearly, if there are some cars with no wind noise, there must be a fix.

If all cars had wind noise, well then, it is an inherent design issue with possibly no fix.

In mine, it starts to be noticeable at 80 kph and above. Below that speed and it is very quiet.

And to those about to comment, no, I will not just drive at speeds 80 kph and less so I don't have to hear the wind noise.

If you you hear wind noise around the A-Pillars, then you may have what I had. There is a SIB (service bulletin) for this issue, it's SIB 51 04 13.

I just had this repair done and it made a world of difference for me.

See: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=99

They replaced the windshield drip moldings (left and right) and used the new blue clips to secure them. The whooshing/buffeting noise is gone.

The drip molding is also a slightly different design in that there is an added reinforcing flange at the bottom. It's definitely an upgraded part from the original that I had on my car which didn't have these flanges.

I haven't gone through all 17 pages of this thread.
I have an MY14 335i and find it very quiet, comfortable and smooth in comfort mode.....no wind noise issues here.

All of the newer cars I've see have this new flange on the molding, so maybe the wind noise is just something that occurs on early builds of the F30's. Mine is an April 2012 build.

The other idea is that you would get noise if if the clips were not originally installed correctly. That would explain why some people have no noise and others do.

They replaced those on mine after I repeatedly said I did not feel that was causing the issue with mine as my noise was clearly coming from a different location. They called and told me the issue has been fixed after replacing the A pillar strips. I asked if they drove it to ensure it was fixed. Yup, all repaired. The minute I drove out of the lot and onto the highway, there it was.......As soon as i hit 80 kph, noise from my B pillar area exactly as it was before. They only give lip service hoping we are stupid enough to think the noise magically has disappeared. Very frustrating when they don't listen.
