iDrive not reading my USB sticks

I got today my 328i and tried two diffrents sticks with MP3 songs, I prepared while waiting for delivery.
When I put then in USB port, nothing happens. When I go throug Idrive, it says "empty".
Am I missing some steps here?

You must use the FAT32 format - did you?

Yes, both stics are FAT32 formated. One is 2Gb, the other 8Gb size.
Both worked in my Audi A4.

Got it. I have to select external audio instead of default CDN through idrive.

I was used to Audi's immediate "Reading external media" when you plug USB stick in. So I expected the same behaviour.

Thanks for trying to help.

BTW. Driving this car is... Hmmm... No, I cannot describe...

Which USB port are you using?

The one in the centre should play right off the memory stick.

The one in the glovebox is for loading music to your hard drive (if you have satnav option). It takes a while to load though, and the music will not then be under USB.

I'm also "re-learning" stuff having drive the Audi prior to my current bimmer. The "user interface" in the Bimmer... hmmm...

Great - glad you got sorted out. There will be a learning curve with all that technology!
Yes, the RWD BMW is nice after a FWD car...

Enjoy!

I am using center one. I don't have the glove box one (no satnav).
No maps for my country (yeah, I know...), so didn't order that.

It was just swiching from CD to external source. Simple. For some people

I wouldn't worry about it - right now there is probably about 50 lurkers thinking, "Ah, that's how you do it!"
