I am glad to see some share my opinion that the 4 series is seriously ugly. I like the major lines the over silhouette of the car, but I could write novel about why I hate every single detail of this car and I mean every detail and it would absolutely keep me from buying one. Although, I can say there are details throughout the entire new BMW line that make me shake my head. What were they thinking?

I love every detail of this 4 coupe concept. If everything in this concept model goes into production, it is fine with me. Just concerned about the pricing. Albeit it is anticipated to be higher than current 3er coupes as BMW has meant to take it to the next level therefore renaming to 4 series, I worry that the price may go up significantly.

I just had a little nutty fit about modern car design on another board. It was about this new Mercedes:
Whereas The BMW is not nearly the travesty that this thing is, I'm going to copy and paste what I said about 'elements' (like the boomerang on this thing). Here's what i posted: That car pisses me off. Modern car design has been reduced to pasting design elements onto soap-bar blobs. The intent of these haphazard design elements is to break up the blob look to the vehicle, while maintaining it's slippery aerodynamics. The designers have fallen in love with these individual elements, slapping them on the car for no reason. It is the Mr. Potatohead method. Look at this car, or look at a BMW/Ferrari/Mercedes: they all have Separate elements: Lights, fake a-pillar vent, Flame surfaced creases aping swoops and curves. Each element is all so effing precious, but makes no sense if you look at the car. Now look at the first picture in the OP. Really look at that travesty. This isn't like when you were a kid and your parents didn't let you stare at the auto accident as you slowly drove by. Stare at that disjointed Picasso-looking pig. Now, close your eyes. Erase the image. Now open them and look at this: Aaaaaaaah. |

I think that you get it! Loved your comments. I have been thinking lately that I will just add an older Porsche to the garage and enjoy and move on. I have had a few in the past and a PCA member for 17 years. Pick up some thing else as the DD.

I think
BMW Has lost its way by doing all these new changes, I don't see the strategy in separating the 3 series coupe and giving it a new name..what's going to happen with the legendary m3 ?? Is it only going to be available as a 4 door ? ...... |

I like the concept a lot and think the production version will be more pleasing to the eye.
However, it is strange to me that, especially going from the 3er to the 4er moniker, this is the least drastic change from one generation to the next. The E30 to E46 to E92 transitions were major redesigns while this seems almost like LCI update 2.0 for the E92.

As far as I'm concerned, the "grand coupe" or "four door coupe" thing is nothing more than MBAs having come up with another way to market a different and sleeker exterior design and mount it on an existing chassis/frame, and gussy up the interior, all to boost the price and thus the profits. Sex sells; that about what it comes down to. That one can get a 550 X-Drive equipped the same as a 650 X-Drive grand coupe for about $10K less illustrates my point. They are basically the same car, but for the outward appearance and the lack of space in the rear seat. And for my money, the 5er is handsome enough, even though the 6er version is swoopier. That said, I'm not going to be in the market for another large 4-door as I already have a 5er. I will, however, be seeking to replace my 3er in a few years and I sure do hope that the price for a 4er coupe won't be $10K more than the 3er sedan, similarly equipped. I still see the 3/4 series as utility cars and my 3er is my daily driver. Regardless of my ability to do so, I simply won't spend a gross sum (> $50K modestly equipped) on a daily driver. So while I may prefer the 4er, I may yet end up buying a 2er (or a non-BMW) for that reason alone.

Overall I like the look of the car, but it could just be the nature of the video's shooting angle, but it looks like the nose end of the hood is mushed down from a side angle. Something akin to a person having no real nose, but nonetheless having a protruding upper lip and chin...Does anyone else see this?

I'm surprised this isn't brought up more often. That horizontal line across the front hood is horrible!

I'll have to see the final production version live but from what I've seen in pictures so far, it seems over designed. What I mean by that is there's so many elements trying to be modern, respecting the past, borrowed from other german brands, etc. It's like the new Superman Logo for the upcoming movie
Design for the sake of design instead of a clean cohesive approach. My .02 |

I love the 4 Coupe. All the "Tron"
like effects are great! I would expect at least a 320hp, however. The interior is beautiful. I like the true leather like color with the new suede trim. Wheels are a true turbo like design. Not sure I would go with 19's, they could be a beating and somewhat loud. I would like to see some more digital speedo effects.

Was at the show and besides the Gran Coupe, sorry BMW starting to look boring. Mercedes gone off a cliff, no hope for them. Audi looks interesting, but its annoying all look like same exact sausage different length. By this time I am usually already having a hissy fit. This time am completely ambivalent and think I may keep the E92 335 for a while longer and or keep it and just add to it buy something else but haven't decided what yet. I flirted with an X6, but was told at the show it will be changed in a year and half at most, might as well wait see what they come up with. No hurry this time.
