SpaceX almost sticks the landing!

Yesterday Spacex attempted to land the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on a barge in the ocean. It was their second attempt and they almost made it! If successful they could one day re-use rockets instead of having them just burn up in our atmosphere, reducing the cost of sending things/humans to space substantially! Check out the video below.

For some reason i cant get the video embed so here is a link:

Cool deal!! Read an article saying that ULA may run out of rockets soon so you guys will be the major player in the launch business.

Very cool technology. Once it works all the time people will be like, "Ho hum. Usual stuff."

I wonder how many agencies/companies will feel comfortable re-using a rocket that has to undergo that kind of usage/stress multiple times?

I'm not sure where that article was getting its info from, because I've seen reports suggesting the exact opposite:

All the Sci-fi movies have been landing rockets upright since at least 1950s, even on other planets with differing gravities and atmospheres.

I read it on wsj.com a few weeks back. I looked up some articles today based on your comment and it looks like ULA is looking to end the Russian rockets purchases as Boeing and Lockheed Martin's partnership looks to create rockets with reusable engines.
