Went snow plowing today!

Don't worry... No damage and its clear bra'd. First time I ever had snow tires. What a difference. I feel dumb for not owning a set till now.

So, because I was used to seeing you with your F32 pic, and now the F30, why'd you swap to the 335 from your 435?

I just drove in +6 inch deep snow on summers. I played around with the car on our local neighborhood for about 25 mins. I was trying to get stuck, never happened. I ended up laying down some donuts instead

X-drive with snows is a ridiculously good combination. I still prefer my RWD F30, but my wife's E61 with snows is infallible.

Yea. I used run all seasons on my last 2 BMW's that had xdrive. Snows make a world of difference.

It truly is a world of difference. I bought a set of 17's and put winter tires on them and I couldn't be happier. BTW, just coming out of a G37X S and this car is much better in the snow than my G was. Glad I made the switch

There is absolutely no comparison between an xdrive car with snows and an RWD car of any type or an xdrive car with all seasons. I can go through a foot of snow on my Pilot Alpines easily in my F30 x drive and did the same in my E92 x drive All you guys who say you don't need x drive or snows to drive in snow are nuts.

+1

It's all about the snow tires. AWD is a pricey marketing scam for the lazy.

The rubber hits the snow, the ice, the cold temperatures. There is no comparison for its traction and stopping power. Took me 4 hours to drive from Manhattan to Northern NJ on Monday in that afternoon storm, completely unplowed roads, slush hills 6" high between lanes on Route 3. When I could get around others, I was driving 50 MPH without issue on RWD and snow tires, everyone else afraid of their own shadow or pushing it and skidding out.

I got the Blizzaks-WS80 this season, and they are excellent. This paired with xDrive is a great combo. This is the perfect winter car, especially if you have the cold weather package. Heated steering wheel + heated seats = awesome. If you have passengers in the back, they'll also appreciate the rear heated seats.

I saw many cars (primarily FWD) get stuck on Monday when we had snow followed by freezing rain. I would've stopped & helped these people, but traffic was just too insane. I wish people would invest in snow tires where I am...We are known to get a lot of snow

Yesterday I found the limit of RWD with performance winter tires. With 6-8 inches, not plowed, only matted down by other traffic I ran into a little trouble as I went (perhaps too slowly) slightly uphill into a section of the road severely less traveled. The deep snow is tough to push (this is where narrow tires would be preferred) and I ran out of grip. I had to back up a few feet and take a short run to get through and continue on. I made it home, so I'm still very happy.

Obviously this is an extreme case, but I'll throw the xDrive guys a bone and say that if I had awd I probably would not have been momentarily stuck. Same could be said if I had the non-studded ice/snow variety of winter tires.

This morning the conditions were still pretty bad, but driving on packed snow I was once again smiling with confidence

No, there is no limit, RWD is the superior drive type in anything. Joe and every other RWD fanboi on the internet says so. RWD is so awesome it doesn't even need to TOUCH the ground...it just floats over everything.

Agree, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in a similar climate. Money well spent.

I had to grab a part from the dealer today, and I saw my SA. She said that they had several people come in today saying there was a rubbing sounds coming from their cars..

She goes: "It's just the snow stuck in the wheel well.." Then rolled her eyes. Oh people. Sometimes I do not know how they survive day to day...
