comparison
I fully agree with the last post. I am on the fence, waiting for the 320d (or what they somewhat cynically will badge the 328d) pricing, before placing my order. I will go with the 320d if the price is at or below the 328i, including any Eco-credits. If they charge a premium for the 320d relative to the 328i, which I suspect they will, it will be hard to justify, since as you note, the correct comparables are the 320d and 320i.

i guess....in the end it's going to have to be cheaper than the 328i for me to be interested. it's a real scam if they charge more than a 328i when this car is really a 320d.

Is there any equipment that is standard on the US spec 328i that isn't standard on the 328d? If not, then it seems fair that these cars are priced quite evenly. I just took a gander at my local pricelist and the one for the UK. Over here the 320d xDrive automatic costs 3,6 % less than the 328i, and in the UK it costs 1,6 % more than the 328i.

UK pricing
The fact is that in the UK the 320d Sport is Ģ 30,935.00 and the 328i Sport is Ģ 31,920.00. So like everywhere else, the 320d is cheaper in the UK. I hope that they don't screw us.

You are not comparing the same builds. The 328d will come in rwd and xdrive. Either way, the 320d is cheaper across the board. If the 328d ends up more BMW is just trying to screw the NA consumer.

In that case, yes, it should absolutely be cheaper than the 328i. In earlier threads mentioning the 328d, I've seen raging from people wanting a BMW diesel, but not wanting xDrive. Maybe it was just early rumors that stated it would be xDrive only.

I think you may be conflating the diesel with the wagon, which is AWD only in the US..

Don't bother with Europe when American EPA does it best. It will NOT do 40 mpg combined. I am guessing 35-36, about 8% better than a Tdi. |

Doesn't seem unreasonable to hope for 40mpg combined. My wife gets 33 combined in her e90 335d and the 328d should be more efficient by more than 1-2 mpg.

I'm not suggesting you believe the theoretical (published by BMW) mpg figures. That would be silly. You should however listen to us BMW driving Europeans when we give you the benefit of our actual experience of driving the 320d (328d in the USA). You will in fact achieve better than 40 miles per US gallon when you drive a 328d. That's not naive. That's fact. So actually, you have no need to guess - the car is out there now - jus' not in the good ol' US of A!
