Call your dealer and give them the last 7 of your VIN. They can check that against the list of affected cars and let you know if your's is part of the recall

My car was an August build, September ship and is currently at VDC as of last Wednesday. It is subject to the recall. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get to my dealer as they are not supposed to leave VDC until repaired and there may be some backup. Rumors of cars backed up at VDC subject to the recall are on the web, but rumors on the web will also tell you Carl Rove was personally the mastermind behind 9/11.
The car worked pretty well during my Europe vacation, but I did notice a couple incidents of strange brake behavior, all at low speed. Not sure if the vacuum pump problems cited are only seen when RPM is low so maybe, and this is a guess, the pressurized oil is at too low pressure to run the pump. The car when nearly stopped, but still moving, would seem to stop slowing down suddenly and you would realize you were going to overshoot your intended stopping point. Envision pulling into your garage normally, getting half way in and suddenly feeling like you are going to hit the back wall. Standing on the brakes would work, but you got the feeling like "What just happened? Are the brakes that weak? Did I stop pressing on them?" I made hundreds of stops during the trip and noticed this happen just a couple times. Other people described rock hard pedals. I am not sure if mine was rock hard or not because I suddenly just pressed down with everything to stop the car, and was going 5 mph or so, so the time from noticing there was a problem, nailing the brakes hard, and stopping was pretty much just a second or two. Not super dramatic but little weird though. Was not aware of a recall when this happened, just thought the brakes either kind of sucked or were not seated. At any other speed besides nearly stopped, they were always fine. Last edited by vader1; 10-09-2013 at 09:27 AM.. |

Mine has the same birthdate as yours. But until we have a list of affected vins, most dealers will say fuck off.

+1. Dropped in for an oil change and the guy said they didn't have anything official from BMW, though he seemed to indicate he knew about it. He's a soon to be F32 owner and may be on this forum, so if you're watching Steve I want answers lol!

A little update.
BMW, as of today, still can't provide the VIN numbers of affected vehicles. Engaging in a two-way conversation with them is about as productive as talking with my German Shepherd about what she thinks of the situation. ETA Dealer said they had a "preliminary" list of VIN's affected but couldn't say if more were going to get added. Do we know which build months were affected and, if so, how do I find out what month ours was built in? Thanks! |

I expect that identifying affected cars is complicated by the fact that the defective component is on the engine, and that makes a two-step process necessary to (a) identify the engines with defective lubrication systems, and (b) match those engines up with specific cars.

They "couldn't replicate" customer reported problems.
