What makes Melbourne Red so special?

I had initially decided to go with Mineral Gray Metallic for my upcoming 328i purchase, only because I couldn't find a color (on-line) that I connected with. When taking my first test drive the other day I came across F30s in Melbourne Red. There is no way an image on a monitor can convey the sophistication of this color. Calling it "fire engine red" is way off the mark. It's not brash; it's deep and soft in muted sunlight. In bright sun it's deep and bright. (A "deep" color red is not the same thing as a "dark" color red.) The color makes the paint look like it's an inch deep. It's what I'm going with, and I'm excited about it.

I'd like to hear others' appreciations of the color, especially F30 owners who have chosen it. I won't bother to reproduce and image of a MR F30--it would only be misleading.

I've seen a 3 on the lot that is MR, and personally red cars aren't my favorite. The MR doesn't do it for me. What makes it special is you don't see it very often. The most popular colors here are EB, BSM, MG, AW

Not trying to troll here but MR is my LEAST favorite F30 color. I absolutely get why it feels special to you as EBII does exactly the same for me. I say "rock that shit till the wheels fall off and haters be damned!"

OK, I'm now putting out a request for a "nice wheel choice". I want the wheels to be 19" and lighter than the OE wheels. I'm open to all suggestions. I tend to be very picky about wheels, and I don't like most of what I see. I like the Ronal LS Mesh and Euroweaves I've got for my e30, and I like these on my V6 Accord, just to give you an idea of what I do like:

18x7.5 Silver w/Machined Lip Verde Regency

These Regency wheels weigh 22.2 lbs. What do our 18" OE weigh, anyway?

The downside with MR is that you get tired of it pretty quick. I would kill for a silver or grey car now. It is love at first sight, but it is just a summer fling I'm afraid....

Red isn't my favorite color, because well red seems to just scream look at me and makes me think it's a bit pretentious.

That said, I'm rocking a MB Red F30 and I think it's gorgeous in person and I don't think I've seen another one in anything other than pictures. One of those colors I feel is gorgeous but almost grabs too much attention. I get tons of compliments on it. I guess it's hard not to notice a red car.

x2 x1000. I never even considered a red/cinnabar/whatever e30, it had to be black. I feel the f30 is invisible in black, and nearly so in grey! White is now way too common unfortunately. I tend to think of white luxury cars as looking pretentious.

Those look dated and visually heavy, not good for an F30.

JV, remind me what you have on your f30. I meant to look them up, and I can do that today.

BTW, my wife is a huge fan of Project Runway, she's been addicted for years. It would be funny if I became a Revving Up addict!

Ok one more to fully appreciate the shine, I highly recommend Zainos btw. It is hard to explain but it is almost two different colors. It is light like this in the sun and looks more of a deep red metallic in the dark/moon light.

it is 30%, but I think I still could have gone darker.. I live in FL so sun just penetrates through it like it has nothing on there. The second picture almost looks like there is no tint even on there..lol

Forgestar F14, 19", 20% lighter than the stock 18's.

I don't think they look bad on the Honda. This doesn't show it, but I put on dark Honda center cap logos to give the wheels a more balanced look. Each to his own, I guess.

I'm about to order a MR F30 with M-tech I'm a big AW fan but decided to change it up..why?

I have one 3-year old son, and my wife is done having kids so my family is small. The Red BMW F30 will be equally used as our family car..and it just makes the stab a little bit longer for other dads that have been relegated to driving big SUVs and Minivans
