Just wanted to know, does the boot fly up automatically when you press the boot button or does it just unlock it like in the E90?

Unlike the E90, it does open automatically. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Best regards,

In fact the manual even warns you not to stand over the trunk lid when you trigger it.

Can anyone tell me what the standard audio package sounds like? Furthermore, does anyone have the specifications for it?

Guys and Gals,

i know it might as been discussed already, but i couldn't find the thread again:

Regarding hooking up portable hard-drives (the HDs that dont require external power):
how big a capacity can the BMW computer handle?
can i hook up a 500G or even 2Terabytes portable HD?

I know a simple thumb stick USB can be connected and detected...

Anyone please?

PS: i am ordering an F30 without Nav, or Apps.... It will be the basic 6in screen idrive...
what are my limitations in terms of connection?

Thanks in advance!

RTFM starting on p. 206.
  • USB mass storage devices - flash drives or flash based MP3 players
  • FAT32 recommended (read REQUIRED in all likelihood)
  • Not supported: USB Hard drives, hubs & card readers with multiple slots

Elsewhere it says:
  • Max 500 mA supplied to US port
  • Info from up to 4 devices and either 16K or 36K tracks can be stored. This indicates it can index and save a listing of the contents, so it does not have to re-read the drive. Not sure why the range - my guess would be 16K is limit without Nav and 36K is limit with Nav

The brochure says:
Quote:
HiFi speaker system with 205-watt amplifier, vehicle-specific equalizing, and nine speakers for a colorful sound experience.

Are there two latches holding down the hood (bonnet)? Or is there one central one?

If there's two latches I imagine there's one on the right side and on the left side.

According to the manual "the hood must audibly engage on both sides" when closing. Therefore I presume that there are two latches.

No All-season Tires Available on F30 Sport Line?

I am in the process of ordering a 2012 328i Sportline, and the dealer just advised that all-season tires are not available on this model. I live in the north and have to drive on snow, and the disclaimers in the literature advise that performance tires are not good on snow. I don't see how this can be true, because it more or less rules out sales to people who need to drive on snow.

Would appreciate any comments on how true the dealer's statement is and a reasonable solution (other than ordering the car and buying and installing a whole duplicate set of tires).

Apparently the tires I got with my car when I bought it from the dealer were 'all season' tires but it took me 2 heavy snow days to realize that the tires I got are absolutely USELESS in snow!

I went out the next day and spent $800 to get a set of Michellin X-Ice and they have been excellent! You would probably have to do the same unless you get an X-Drive which would be slightly better in the snow.

Good luck! :-)

Guys,

I have a question. I know there are so many threads on this and I might've seen an answer but I can't find it again...

Once the M Sport package comes out and let say I go with the 328i, would I be able to get a Beige (Oyster) interior? Along with the wood trim? And still keep my exterior Estoril Blue? All with the M Sport package option!!!

I'm not interested in getting a car with a black interior specially with no red stitching so I'm hoping to get a bright interior with the wood trim and the awesome Estoril blue outside.

Please let me know...thanks again!!!

I don't think so The way I took it is that the oyster interior and wood would be a line-specific interior option i.e. MODERN. They might offer different interior colors when they release it, but probably not with oyster. I would go online and look at colors offered in the new M6, as they will probably used similar color schemes.

Your dealer speaks the truth. The sports line comes with high performance summer tires that are going to be awful in the snow. If you do much snow driving at all, you will want to consider a set of snow tires.

I got in touch with Budds in Oakville and they basically said the colour/interior options and combinations are pretty much set for 2012.

I have a feeling BMW may do away with restricting the combinations based on line....as another poster stated, for a car this expensive, buyers ought to be allowed to have whatever setup they want.

You have very few options other than to get another set of wheels with snows. Just part of what you are signing up for.

Well, most people who can afford a BMW can afford a second set of tires, one set for the summer and one set for the winter. But for those of us who are just lazy and don't really care too much, we stick with the all-season tires all year round.

But yea, you do not want to be driving in the snow on performance tires (aka: summer tires), especially on a RWD car. Even all-season tires on a RWD can be difficult in the snow. For RWD in the snow you really should get dedicated winter tires (or wait for the 328ix model to be released, which is what I'm doing).
