The noise seems to happen while the engine is cold/cooler and goes away over time. But if the engine sits for ~1 hour, it comes right back. It doesn't sound like the typical exhaust rattle or waste-gate rattle.

Any thoughts?

You sure its a rattle and not just some acoustics when the metal is all cold?

Im not 100% certain what it is. But it is a new sound. It only happened in the last two days that I have noticed. About 2 weeks ago I got my car back from the body shop after being rear ended. They replaced the muffler, but I didnt notice the sound until yesterday.

It is getting a bit colder out but the last two days have been mild and not the coldest we have had recently. Its 76 right now...

Hi. Know this is an old post, but did you ever resolve this sound? 2018 340i LCI. I also get rattles at startup, then goes away quickly. Weather in 40s to 60s. Getting louder recently. Thanks, Keith
