So this happened...
I'm not sure how it happened. I don't know if I backed into something without hearing it happen. I don't know if someone swiped my parked car with theirs. All I know is I want it fixed. Suggestions? Body shop and paint? Cost?

What part of the car is this? Someone bumped into me at a red light and I'm going through this myself. '14 335i too. Isn't it upsetting on a brand new car or what? Lightly dented bumper and some scratches and I'm looking at the very least $500 from a medium-range shop and maybe twice that from a high-end shop. Thankfully other person's insurance is paying.

You got to have a better picture taken during daylight outside.

You're kidding. Rear M-Sport bumper is about $450 new from the dealership, comes primed. They probably get a special price too. They paint it and install it, that's it. Also they would not replace a bumper unless it has broken clips or is severely damaged and not repairable. The insurance wouldn't let them order bumpers for dents. This is from the horse's mouth.

Yeah... The paint is just scratched/scraped. There's no bumps or dents. Should I claim this under my insurance or pay off my own wallet?
I really hope it won't cost $2k. |

That is not a new bumper.
That's removing the bumper from the car, sanding, primer and repaint if you want to do it correctly. You can go cheap and have them try and blend it, but i certainly would not do that. |

I just spoke with Travelbro and he suggest you should but some 200 grit sandpaper and some special paint of eBay an you'll be sweet to fix it yourself, half hour job and only 20 Mcdoubles.

Seriously though, you should be able to get one of the mobile guys to fix it for a couple of hundred. I had a similar thing with my last car and it was around $250 to fix like new.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm gonna see how much it would cost where my dealer referred me to. If it's too much, I'll have to shop around. |

Totally agree it's not a new bumper. It's just a cosmetic repair and there's nothing wrong with that. I've had my dealer do it on my old LMB E91 and the job was 100%
I've also been the victim of a hit and run recently and have another repair pending on my F30. A scuff like the above plus the bumper has been pushed on the carrier and split the plastic. The complete repair will be £600. Make of that what you will. |

I had the exact same damage done to my E92. Local body shop (Koons Collision in Alexandria, VA) replaced the bumper (and tail light because it was cracked). Damage was just over $900. Perfect job/like new.

Ask your dealer who they use for bumper touch-ups. There are specialists who do nothing but this sort of work all day every day. They do it on the car and blend to perfection. Should be cheap. Replacement would be a complete waste.

You should run this by a collision shop, ask they to 'polish' that bumper.
It will probably take them 3 mins to run the buffer over that. If 90% of the blemish is gone then leave it alone, or as do a quote to get it refinished (painted). They probably won't charge (or anything) to polish that. We used to do it al the time when I worked at a collision shop. That cover (from what I can see) won't need replacement, if anything might need paint.. Probably $600-$800 is a rough guess. Polish first, see how it looks and if you can deal with it. |

You should be able to get the paint off with $10 of supplies from walmart. My wife scuffed up her F30 pulling out of the garage () last month and I picked up some Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 at Walmart. That stuff was amazing and took out all of the white paint marks. You can't even tell it happened now.
http://amzn.com/B0002UNON8 Obviously, if you have some deep scratches (hard to tell from the photo) it wont work.. but it's a cheap thing to try before going on to more expensive options. Here's a photo I posted on Amazon... It looks like there is a dent but it's just weird lighting in my garage. |
