F30 Engine Stuttering--What is the cause?

So yesterday and today when I was on the freeway, I noticed when accelerating a couple times of my engine stuttering..

Yesterday I thought it was because my oil wasn't warmed up, but I felt it again today and it seemed like it was already warmed up..

What would cause this?

I have 2012 BMW F30 335I, JB4 Stage 1 and Meisterschaft exhaust..

Could be bad gas. Turbo cars can be very finicky about the quality of gas.

No CEL or codes..

Only power reduced is right when it happens..But then it seems like it catches up or fixes itself.. I didn't push it hard again after it happened the second time..

I did notice it happening right after the most recent time I filled up.. Could be a possibility..I put in the highest octane available and it was 76...

I am taking my car in tomorrow to get my DP installed.. I am also going to get a oil change and will be asking them what they think the issue could be..

Could it have to do with the oil at all? I am at 15,100 something..I took to BMW again the other day, but they will not give me a oil change unless my CEL comes on they said..It is telling me not for another 2,000 miles, but I am sick of them telling me that, and figure I am going to have LTMW just do it now and I will have BMW cover me next time around..

Can you create a new thread with a writeup and review of your exhaust setup? What DP are you installing? I'm curious to know what MS system you went with and what your overall impressions are. How is the volume inside the car?

I bet your car is a beast w/ the JB and exhaust!

Mine does the same thing. I would describe it as a lumpy power output. It feels like the turbo goes into overboost and then immediately backs down and again and again. It seems to happen when I'm in a high gear and give it a moderate throttle application. I wonder if unplugging the solenoid connector on the JB as others are doing now would cure this?

When I took my car in today, LTMW thought it might be the gas.. Maybe just a bad batch or winter blend..

It never did it when I originally got the JB4, which makes them suspect it might be the gas..

I ended up after my install today, getting some 100 octane fuel, mixed in about 4 gallons to maybe a little more than half of my tank..seemed to clear it up and make it better, but I do not think it cured it..

Mmmmmm... Challenge. I have one of those waiting for me in my garage I would love to hear your write up on it. Could you feel a difference with it installed?

I only have had the challenge HFC DP on for a day...but from what I can tell..

The exhaust system I have + the JB4 was already pretty loud when you open up WOT...Now when you step on it WOT it is pretty damn awesome, I would say it made a little louder than before, but now it has this beefier, deeper tone..

I definitely feel a difference too, some more power with the DP. It also gurgles, bubbles, and pops more with the downpipe... I am loving it already

I do admit though, the exhaust + downpipe + JB4 is fucking rad. The exhaust + JB4 alone was already fast as shit, but now I am feeling even faster. I haven't even put it in sport mode yet with all the options, I am sure when I do, it will be scary..I basically just been driving around in comfort mode, and it hauls ass

I am thinking just for fun, I might go pay to dyno it somewhere, just to give myself and everyone a idea of where I might be horsepower wise with these options..

I am going to be driving around today so I will see if it keeps stuttering. If it does, I will try to have it uninstalled and see if it helps..

I was doing some google searches on "JB4 Stuttering" and from what I could see on some other cars with the same problem could also be from 1) Spark plugs may need to be replaced 2) Could have something to do with the fuel pump

: Awesome. Can't wait to get all of my stuff installed. So how is the volume inside the car under normal cruising and normal acceleration? Is is very loud w/ the windows up? Think its appropriate to use as a work car while driving around customers from time to time or too aggresive?

I would say, there is a slight drone once and awhile, but it is LOUD. Even low revs are pretty loud. But the slower you go while stepping on the pedal lightly, you can kinda control it.

My lady definitely noticed the exhaust the first time she got in the car without me telling her. I will see if she notices the next time she gets in if she thinks it is any louder or not.

If you were going to drive customers around, you could get away with it, but i think it would still be pretty noticeable to them.

I am even thinking a resonator maybe down the road to help with the drone, but we will see.

I have to admit, flooring it through tunnels is really really fun though...

Cool thanks. It's hard to tell unless you can actually hear it in person. My tahoe has exhaust on it and yes you can tell its there but inside the car while driving, its not annoying at all - but you can hear it. Perfectly suitable for driving people around.

And then I've had exhaust on other cars (DP, midpipe, catback, etc) that was just downright obnoxious and I would be embarrased to drive customer's around unless they were a fellow enthusiast.

Wouldn't that ruin my engine if I did that? I definitely didn't do that btw
